Meeks, Parkhurst, Sandercock, Desormeau & Gill Win At Can-Am

Garden City NY… Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park along with Kost Tire and Auto Car along with Massey’s Furniture Barn presented a full night of racing action on Friday, August 8, 2014. The night featured racing from the Sportsman, Late Models, Pro Street Stocks, Thunder Stocks and Novice Sportsman. The track also hosted their 2014 autograph night for all divisions.

The Massey’s Furniture Barn, Whitesboro Plow Shop of Watertown, A-Verdi Storage Containers Pro Street Division kicked off the nights racing action with their 20 lap feature event. Milt Combs and Rick Dusckas led the field to the green flag with Robert Martin jumping out from his third place starting position to take the lead. Following Martin at the line was Milt Combs, Matt Parkhurst, Steven Gilmore and David Rogers. Parkhurst slipped to the inside of Combs to take over the second position while Martin continued to lead the way. Parkhurst and Martin battled for the lead with Parkhurst having the advantage as the pair came out of turn number two and down the backstretch. David Rogers battled with Gilmore for the fourth position while Combs sat comfortably in the third position as the field reached the halfway mark. The top two began to distance themselves from the rest of the field while the majority of the field sliced and diced for position. Matt Parkhurst collected the victory with Robert Martin, Shawn Kirby, Milt Combs and David Rogers.

Pat Sullivan and Matt Marcinko led the Whitesboro Plow Shop, A-Verdi Storage Thunder Stock Division to the green with Phil Desormeau taking the lead of lap one. Following Desormeau was Marcinko, Nick Trapp, Sullivan and Rombough. Desormeau continued to led the way and began to distance himself from the rest of the field while Dalton Rombough moved under Don Woodworth to take the fourth position. Phil Desormeau collected the win over Mark Barker, Nick Trapp, Dalton Rombough, Randy Bowman and Pat Sullivan.

Sid Harmer Jr. and Chris Thurston led the Dig Safely NY, Whitesboro Plow Shop of Watertown, Subway Sportsman division was next up for their 25 lap feature event. Chris Thurston took the lead of lap one over Sid Harmer, Luke Whittaker, Nick Webb and Brandon Sweet. The yellow flag waved on lap one when Hayden Burdick slowed in turns one and two. On the restart, Luke Whittaker went three wide with Thurston and Harmer to take the lead while Jack Meeks slipped into the top five. Whittaker began to distance himself from the rest of the field while Chris Thurston battled for the fifth position with Taylor Caprara while current points leader Josh Van Brocklin watched from the seventh position. At the halfway mark, Whittaker continued to lead the way over Harmer, Meeks, Sweet and Van Brocklin. A yellow on lap 14 allowed the field to bunch up. Luke Whittaker quickly found company at his side rails as Jack Meeks battled him for the lead. Meeks took over the lead on lap 17 while Sweet, Van Brocklin and Caprara filled out the top five. Van Brocklin slipped to the inside of Sweet to take over the third position while Caprara followed Van Brocklin and took over fourth. Jack Meeks collected his second victory of 2014 over Luke Whittaker, Taylor Caprara, Josh Van Brocklin and Brandon Sweet.

Phil Potts and Caley Weese led the SUNY Canton Bear World, Whitesboro, PlowShop of Watertown, A-Verdi Storage Containers Late Models to the green flag. Phil Potts took the lead of lap one over Charlie Sandercock, Billy Eisele, Caley Weese, and Zeke McKeown filled out the top five. Phil Potts and Charlie Sandercock battled heavily for the lead as they checked out on the rest of the field. Billy Eisele, Caley Weese and Zeke McKeown filled out the top five. Sandercock would get around Potts to take the win, Billy Eisele, Caley Weese and Zeke McKeown fill out the top five.

Brady Gill and Dustin Hutton led the Whitesboro Plow Show of Watertown, A-Verdi Storage Containers Novice Sportsman to the green. Brady Gill took over the lead of the field while his brother Riley was in second and Jeff Harwood filled out the top three. Brady and Riley would spin in turn two with Riley going pitside. Brady Gill wasted little time moving back to the front over Jeff Hardwood and Rob Graham. Brady Gill picked up the win over Harwood and Graham.

Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park will return to racing action on Friday, August 15, 2014. Headlining the nights racing action will be the Sportsman Modified division. Also in competitive action will be the Pro Street Stocks, Late Models, Thunder Stocks and Novice Sportsman.
