Chapman Collects 1st Career Sportsman Win at GRIT-Thunder in the Thousand Island Series; Kirby, Desormeau, Holland, & Isabell Win

Garden City NY… Ferris Mowers, Tug Edge, Home Deli & Ben Shoen Home Improvements presented a full night of racing action on Friday, September 5, 2014. Headlining the night was the GRIT Series for the Sportsman which featured a 40 lap A-Main. Also in racing action were the Pro Stock/Street Stock Challenge, Mod Lites, Thunder Stocks and Novice Sportsman.

Kevin Forster and Mike Rainville led the Mod Lite division to the green for their make up feature. Kevin Foster jumped out to the early lead over Harley Brown while Brad Reif, Rich Rainville and Matt Rainville filled out the top five. Harley Brown began to real in Kevin Foster to challenge for the lead. Harley Brown took over the lead from Foster while Rich Rainville entered battle for the lead. Harley Brown went on to collect the win over Kevin Foster and Rich Rainville.

The Pro Street Division Massey’s Furniture Barn, Whitesboro Plow Shop of Watertown, A-Verdi Storage Containers kicked off the night’s regular racing action. Sid Harmer sr. and Shawn Kirby led the field to the green with Sid Harmer taking the lead of lap number one of Shawn Kirby and Steven Gilmore. The caution flag waved on lap 7 when Milt Combs slowed in turn number four. Sid Harmer continued to lead the way over Shawn Kirby with Kirby applying greater pressure for the position. Mike White continued to watch from the third position while Gilmore and Terry Ladouceur filled out the top five. As the two to go sign was shown, Shawn Kirby slipped to the inside to take over the lead while Harmer and White followed closely to take the spot. As the checkered flag flew, Shawn Kirby took the win at the line over Sid Harmer, Mike White, Terry Ladouceur, and Burton Ward.

Josh Verne and Phil Desormeau led the Whitesboro Plow Shop, A-Verdi Storage Thunder Stock Division to the green for their 12 lap feature event. Phil Desormeau took over the lead of lap one over Josh Verne, Matt Marcinko, Nick Trapp and Shane Ray. Nick Trapp pulled to the outside of Matt Marcinko to challenge for the lead. The top four cars began to pull away to battle heavily for the lead with Phil Desormeau showing the way. Matt Marcinko pulled to the outside of Josh Verne to take the second position. At the checkered flag, Phil Desormeau took the win over Shane Ray and Francis White.

Steve Barber and Tiger Chapman led the GRIT Sportsman Series to the green flag for their 40 lap event. The Sportsman field began their race with a special tribute to Brandon Hagan, the Sportsman driver who was killed last weekend in a ATV accident. The race began with a four wide salute before getting into position to begin their 20 mile journey. As the green flag waved, Tiger Chapman took the lead of lap number one over Steve Barber, Anthony Stockman, Brandon Sweet and Connor Cleveland. The caution waved on lap one when Chris Thurston and David Rogers came together in turn number three. On the restart, Chapman continued to lead the way over Barber, Brandon Sweet, Anthony Stockman and Taylor Caprara. Chapman continued to show the way at the lap ten mark but Brandon Sweet was closing the gap and began to challenge for the lead. The pair began to work through lap traffic which allowed Sweet to close the gap even more. Brandon Sweet and Steve Barber both suffered from right rear flat tires which allowed Josh Van Brocklin and Jack Meeks the opportunity to move into the top five. Tiger Chapman continued to show the way while Luke Whittaker, Anthony Stockman, Van Brocklin and Meeks filled out the top five as the field cross the lined for the halfway mark. Chapman kept setting the pace on the field while Luke Whittaker and Jack Meeks continued to follow in pursuit of the top spot. Tiger Chapman went on to collect his first sportsman victory over Jack Meeks, Josh Van Brocklin, Anthony Stockman and Dave Marcucilli.

Joe Isabell and Brad Reif led the Mod Lite Feature to the green flag in their 12 lap feature event. Joe Isabell took the lead of lap number one over Reif, Matt Rainville, Jeff Isabell Jr, and Harley Brown. At the halfway mark, Joe Isabell continued to lead the way over Jeff Isabell, Matt Rainville, Rich Rainville and Kevin Foster. Joe Isabell collected the win over Jeff Isabell Jr, Matt Rainville and Derrick Ellsworth.

Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park will return to racing action on Saturday, September 13, 2014. Whitesboro Plow Shop of Watertown, Watertown Auto Sales & Drive America present the GRIT Sportsman Series competing in a 40 lap feature event. Also in competitive action will be a Prostreet/Street Stock Challenge, Mod Lites, Thunder Stocks and a Chenney Tire $500 to win Enduro.
