December 20, 2010

Chapman’s Can An Motorsports Park 2nd annual Hangover 100 Enduro is just two weeks away.  On Sunday, January 2nd, the ever-popular Enduro races will return with a 100 lap, $1000 to win event.

Last season, Can Am hosted a series of Enduro races, including an unprecedented 4 hour Endurance race paying winner Mike Durham $4000 for his efforts.  Durham also won the inaugural Hangover 100.  This season, more cars are expected and Durham will have his work cut out for him if he looks to repeat.

“Last season, our Enduro races were some of our most successful events”, says track General Manager Alana Moncrieff.  “It really is a lot of fun for everyone, and hopefully we can continue to grow this event year after year.  Unlike last season, I wont be racing in this one”, laughs Burdick.

Plenty of coffee and hot chocolate will be served as Savory Café will be on hand to run the concession stands and keep the faithful race fans warm in the unpredictable winter weather.  Pit Gates will open at 11am, Grandstands open at noon, and racing will get underway at 1pm.  Pit admission is $20, and grandstand admission is just $5.

Entry forms and Enduro rules are available on the track’s website.  Entry fee for the event is $50 and that includes car registration as well as pit admission for the driver.  For technical information regarding Enduro rules, please contact Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park tech inspector Alana Moncrieff at moncrieffalana@yahoo.com or by phone at (646) 416-3585.

Change is in the Air as Can Am Motorsports Park Looks Ahead to 2011

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

November 14, 2010

Just over 100 people gathered at the Cape Vincent Recreation Park building to listen to Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park owner Tiger Chapman discuss plans for the upcoming 2011 season.  Chapman addressed the crowd as to what to expect going into next season, and some changes that have been made as they approach 2011.

For some classes, like the Sportsman, Thunder car and pure stock divisions, no major changes were announced.  The Street Stock division debated some proposed rule changes, some of which will be addressed at a later date.  The IMCA Modified division also discussed some proposed changes that may see the class drop the IMCA sanctioning, allowing cars from Brighton Speedway to compete regularly with the Can Am cars.  While these discussions haven’t been set in stone, it is a possibility that Can Am officials will explore in the weeks ahead.

The biggest change that will take place for next season will be the loss of the Big Block Modifieds.  The 358 Modifieds will now be the headline class, racing weekly for $1000 to win.  There may also be a possibility of a new CT525 GM Crate Motor that could compete with the Small Block Modifieds, it is a motor that costs approximately $7200.  The elimination of the Big Block class has been confirmed but the addition of the new motor is still in the early stages and at this point is just a possibility.

“Eliminating the Big Blocks was the toughest decision that we had to made as we get ready for next year”, says Chapman.  “I would like to have a place for everyone to race in whatever cars they can bring to the track, but in the end it comes down to a business decision, and we have to do what is best for the track”.

The Late Model division will also have a rule change regarding tires.   LM40 tires that were run this season at Can Am will be allowed as well as American Racers that are run at Fulton and Brewerton, thus giving those cars an option to run Can Am without having to purchase new tires.  The Late Model division will go unsanctioned in 2011.

Chapman also stated that he wants to have all cars at the track each week, as opposed to running some of the entry-level classes on alternate weeks like in past seasons.  While many people have concerns at about the length of the program each week, Chapman also addressed that an undetermined time limit will apply to feature events next season.  The limit will be addressed at a later date, but it was made clear that the time spent during a red flag will not count towards the time limit.  If any particular class has fewer then seven cars, the track will adjust the schedule and have them just run features, and no heat races.  If any particular class has fewer then seven cars for three consecutive weeks, a meeting amongst the class will be called to address the future of the class.

“I know a lot of people are unhappy about some of the things we have talked about, but at the end of the day we have to do what is the best for Can Am Motorsports Park.  Last season, the track was absolutely destroyed financially, and we have to make some changes”, confirms Chapman.

As we settle into the off-season, Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park will remain busy, as they work with National Grid to fix up the lighting and electrical issues that affected the Speedway late in the season.  The process will be ongoing, and will consist of National Grid installing new poles and transformers.

The track wont sit idle for long, as the first race of 2011 will take place on Sunday, January 2nd with the second annual Hangover 100 Enduro paying $1000 to win.  Pit gates will open at 11am, and grandstands will open at noon.  Pit admission is $20 and grandstand admission will be just $5.

Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park Cancels October 6th DIRTcar Series Events

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

September 28, 2010

Due to some after affects from the Tornado that struck Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on July 21st, Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park officials have reluctantly decided to cancel the October 6th Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modifieds and Mr. DIRTcar/SUNY Canton Sportsman series races.

A fire in the main power shack two weeks ago was the final nail that caused track officials to call off the special Super DIRT Week event.  The Speedway is currently working with National Grid and have plans in place for a new power shack to be put up and they will also be replacing the poles and transformers that have been in place for over 20 years.  The track does have generators on the premises, but when they go to power up the generator to run the track lights, as well as the concessions, it trips all of the breakers.

"We've discussed the matter, weighed all of our options and feel it is in everyone's best interest for us to focus on the 2011 season”, says track owner Tiger Chapman.

While the track remains without power, racing will continue this Sunday with the 4 hour, $4000 to win Endurance race this coming Sunday, October 3rd.  Second place will receive $1500, and third place will walk away with $500 for their efforts.  The green flag waves at 1pm, and the checkered flag will be displayed at 5pm.  The car that completes the most laps and is still running at the checkered flag will be declared the race winner.

“We have no power at the track but we’re still on as schedule for this Sunday as no lights are needed to run the afternoon Endurance race,” noted Can-Am General Manager Alana Moncrieff.  “It is disappointing that we had to cancel the Mr. DIRTcar events and the SUNY Canton race for this season”.

Information will be released in the coming days in regards to the rained out Sportsman feature from September 3rd, as well as the SUNY Canton Sportsman race paying $2000 to win and the SUNY Canton Street Stock race that would have paid $1000 to win that was on the schedule for the October 6th event.  The rained out feature from September third will be either made up on opening night in 2011, or divided amongst all cars that were entered into the race that night.  The SUNY Canton events that were on the schedule will be also be made up early in 2011.

“I know that the Street Stock series was very close, and its disappointing that we cant decide the outcome on the final night”, says Burdick.  “We just don’t have a choice in matter at this time, and we had to make the best decision for everyone involved”.

More information on the 2010 season at Chapman's Can-Am Motorsports Park can be found at www.canammotorsports.com or by contacting Alana Moncrieff at (646) 416-3585.

Dunn, O’Brien, Hulsizer, Gill, Harmer and Scott are 2010 Can Am Track Champions

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

September 6, 2010

Although the final night ended early with rain, as per DIRTcar rules, the track points must come to an end on Labor Day weekend, the 2010 Can Am Motorsports Park track champions have been decided.  Billy Dunn, Tim O’Brien, Matt Hulsizer, Lee Gill, and Ryan Scott have put together championship-winning seasons at the fast Lafargeville, New York half mile.

For the second consecutive season, Billy Dunn topped the Big Block Modified division at Can Am.  Dunn had a fantastic season posting six wins, and 13 top five finishes in 13 starts at Can Am.  He also had a victory in his only run in a 358 Modified SUNY Canton series event.  Dunn won the 2010 Big Block championship by an astonishing 84 points over his nearest competitor.

Tim O’Brien won the 358 Modified track championship for the first time in his career.  To top of Tim’s season, he is also the SUNY Canton 358 Modified Series winner.  Tim’s season consisted of five victories and 18 top five finishes, in the 18 races on the schedule for the Small Block Modified division.  O’Brien won the championship by 94 points over second place.

Last year’s SUNY Canton Sportsman champion Matt Hulsizer picked up the 2010 Sportsman track Championship.  In 18 events at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park, Hulsizer posted a season high five feature wins, 15 top five finishes and 18 top tens.  Hulsizer clinched the championship the previous week, and with the rained out feature on Friday night, Hulsizer finished the year with that same 65-point lead.

When you think of Late Model racing at Can Am, you can’t help but think of Lee Gill.  Gill was a Can Am track champion back in the early days with the 6 cylinder Late Models, and now with a GM Crate Powered Late Model the results are no different for the hometown, Lafargeville, New York racer.  Gill put together a season that consisted of 10 wins, including the final five checkered flags of the season.  Gill also posted 15 top five finishes in just 16 starts.  His only DNF occurred on July 12th when his Late Model ended up on its roof.

Sid Harmer Sr. finished the year as the 2010 Can Am Street Stock Track Champion.  Harmer had three victories over the year, and posted 13 top five finishes, and 15 top tens in just 16 starts this season.  This was Harmer’s first ever Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park Championship.

Ryan Scott is your 2010 IMCA Modified track champion.  Scott won the first six IMCA Modified events of 2010 and that was more then enough for the championship for the Kingston, Ontario racer.  Scott went on to add one more victory later in the season and finished the year with 11 top five finishes in the 11 IMCA events in 2010.  Scott’s worst finish of the season was third place.

“On behalf of the entire staff at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park, we would like to congratulate all of our champions on a great 2010 season.  Some of our champions are returning champs, and some are first time champions, but regardless of the number, we congratulate you all, and wish you good luck in your remaining 2010 events.  We look forward to seeing you in 2011”, says Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park General Manager Alana Moncrieff.

Just a few more events remain on the 2010 schedule for Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park.  This coming Friday night, the SUNY Canton Sportsman and Street Stock Series take center stage with Pure Stocks, Thunder cars and Mod Lites as well as a 40 lap $1000 to win Enduro at the end of the night.  The Street Stocks will run two separate 25 lap features with the winner picking up $1000 for each race.

SUNY Canton will be back the following Friday night with another pair of Sportsman and Street Stock races.  Crate Late Models, Mod Lites and the championship weekend double points for Pure Stocks and Thunder cars will also fill out the Friday, September 17th schedule.  The Crate Late Model feature that was rained out from Friday September 3rd will be run at the start of the evening.

A unique first time event will take place on Sunday, October 3rd at Can Am as a 4 hour Endurance race will take place.  The driver to complete the most laps in the 4 hour period will take home an unprecedented $4000 winners share.  Second place will receive $1500 and third place will leave the track with $500.

The grand finale for 2010 will wrap up on Wednesday night, October 6th as the 358 Modified DIRTcar Series comes to Lafargeville.  The final points night for the SUNY Canton Sportsman and Street Stocks will also take place and the track will crown their 2010 SUNY Canton champions.  The rained out Sportsman feature from Friday, September 3rd will start the night.  The SUNY Canton Sportsman race will pay $2000 to win which is the highest paying race in the history of Sportsman racing at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park.

More information on the 2010 season at Chapman's Can-Am Motorsports Park can be found at www.canammotorsports.com or by contacting Alana Moncrieff at (646) 416-3585.

As the field rounded into turn number three, Chuck Hebing jumped out of line and pulled high into the pit area which allowed Brian McDonald to fill out the second position. As lady luck had it, McDonald’s second place run was short lived as he also pulled pit side giving the second place position to Steve Poirier. Justin Barger and Alain Bergeron battled side by side for the fifth position with Barger wasting little time moving under Bergeron as the pair drove into turns one and two with Barger taking over the fifth position. Shawn Donath quickly closing in on Steve Poirier as the two closed in on Lance Yonge who continued to set the pace on the field. Steve Poirier would not be defeated as he went on to take the checkered flag over Shawn Donath and Justin Barger.

As Mother Nature was quickly bringing rain to the area, track officials quickly put the Big Block/Small Block Modified feature on the speedway surface. The nights 30 lap feature, which decided the 2010 championships in both the Big Block and Small Block divisions, was led to the green flag by Kenny Bearup and Lance Willix. The two cars battled side by side at the wave of the green flag as Willix held the slight advantage as the pair worked their way out of turn number two. Scott Parliament dived under Matt Billings and Kenny Bearup out of turn number two to take over the third position as leader Lance Willix pulls pit side. Willix’s sudden departure from the speedway turned the top spot over to Adam Roberts who quickly took over a healthy and steady lead on the field. Vinnie Vitale slipped under Kenny Bearup to take over the third position as Steve Paine followed in pursuit by taking the fourth position from Bearup. Billy Dunn, who started in the 12th position had quickly worked up into the top eight as Steve Pain made opportunity for himself under Vinnie Vitale in turn number one which gave him the third position. Steve Paine continued his trek to the front as he moved under Scott Parliament out of turn two for the second position. Billy Dunn continued his move to the front as Scott Parliament drifted high out of turn two allowing Dunn to slip under him for position. Steve Paine maneuvered his way under Adam Roberts coming out of turn three and four for the lead. On lap 23 the rain fell on to the speedway, giving Steve Paine his 300th career win as Adam Roberts and Rob Bellinger rounded out the top three. Billy Dunn took the 2010 Big Block Track Championship while Tim O’Brien collected the 358 Modified Track Championships.

Tornado Rips Through Lafargeville, New York; Races on Friday Night are Canceled - Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

July 22, 2010

Only 15 years and few days from the worst day in Can Am Speedway history, a devastating Tornado ripped through the small town of Lafargeville, New York on Wednesday afternoon causing major damage to the VIP towers above the grandstand.  The roof of the towers are scattered all over the grandstand area and onto the racetrack.   Racing for Friday night has been canceled, and the goal for track officials is to have the Speedway operational for next weekend. We are going to try and run the Go Karts on Saturday night, as we do not need any power in the tower to run the Go Karts.

Although the damage isn’t as bad as the “microburst” of 1995, much of Thursday was spent cleaning up all of the debris around the track caused by the tornado.  Many volunteers have helped us already with the cleanup, which began once the insurance company had a chance to survey the damage on Thursday morning.

“We have received a lot of volunteer help, and a lot of support from everyone in the racing community.  We can’t thank everyone enough for the help, and for the time that people have taken out of their busy schedule to give us a hand”, stated Alana Moncrieff Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park General Manager.

While the damage is bad, thoughts soon turned to how fortunate they are that this storm didn’t take place 48 hours later, on a Friday night as fans would have been at the track or well on their way.  The disaster is definitely a set back to new owner Tiger Chapman and his staff, the situation could have been much worse.

Tentatively, racing is expected to resume next Friday night, July 30th.  All other events at the track, including the Chapman’s Can Am Froggy Jam Concert scheduled next month are still on as scheduled.

“It is going to take a lot of work to get this back into shape, but we will carry on.  Again, we all appreciate everyone’s support and just have some patience with us for a week or so, and we will do our best to keep everyone informed.  I just feel bad for (new owner) Tiger Chapman and his family.  They are pretty much broken hearted about the whole deal, as is all of our staff that spend countless number of hours here at the track each week”, stated Burdick.

The people with Fundraiser tickets from this week’s race and races from July 9th that was rained out will all be honored next week.

Zemken maneuvered her way through lap traffic which she hit by mid way through the 25 lap feature. “I knew I could settle when I hit that lap traffic,” Jessica continued. “I’ve had so many times when I’ve laid back and let them by me and I wasn’t able to get it back. I just can’t thank my guys enough. They work so hard and it’s really paying off because we are where we want to be.”

As the remaining laps clicked away, Gilbert would find the back of Phil Walkers bumper but time wouldn’t be on his side as Phil Walker collected the win. Eli Gilbert would finish in second while Russ Marsden rounded out the top three.

Tim Fuller Takes Sweet WoO Late Model Victory; Raabe and Gilbert Take Can-Am Wins

Written By Megan Rowe - June 15, 2010

Garden City NY…It’s been many years since Tim Fuller has sat in victory lane at his former stomping grounds of Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park and to sweeten the win in front of his hometown the native of Edwards, NY picked up his first World of Outlaw Late Model Feature win of the 2010 season.

“We’ve been junk all season,” commented Fuller from victory lane. “My guys they work so hard. It’s nice to be able to pick up this win and do it here at Can-Am. Hopefully this is the start of the turnaround for this season. The staff here put together a great track and I was lucky to be able to run anywhere. My car just worked.”

Fuller took the checkers over friend and another hometown favorite Tim McCreadie. “We will take a second,” McCreadie stated. “My car didn’t really work at the top and it was hard to pass on the bottom. I followed the yellow, red and orange car around the track. He got the job done. It’s great for the fans. I’m sure many don’t care who was first or second as long as it was one of us and I’m glad we are both sitting here.”

Fuller started on the outside pole and was able to skirt away from Rick Eckert who had the pole position. The top six would juggle positions with McCreadie taking full advantage of early restarts to put him into the top three in a matter of laps. Fuller diced his way through lap traffic as Clint Smith fell out of the top three with engine woe’s that sent him pitside. Darrell Lanigan found himself tracking down Tim McCreadie while at times battling with Josh Richards to maintain the third position. McCreadie mustered up all his effort to get pass Fuller but wouldn’t find the opportunity as Fuller sailed on to victory lane.

Chris Raabe and Tim Sears Jr. led the SUNY Canton Sportsman Feature to the green flag in the 25 lap feature event. Chris Raabe ran into lap traffic as the field remained under green flag conditions. It proved not to be enough for Tim Sears to catch Chris Raabe who collected the win over Tim Sears and Matt Hulsizer.

Sid Harmer Sr. and Mike Allen led the Street Stock to the green with Sid Harmer Sr. taking control of the field. Mike White slid under Rocky Warner and put his car in the second position. “We hope we don’t have to use the rain date, of course”, says Alana Moncrieff, but if it does happen to rain, we have the following night to fall back on.  This is a big show for us here, and we are hoping for great weather”.

Memorial Day Weekend to Kick Off SUNY Canton Series Events at Can Am

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

May 24, 2010

Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park will get the Memorial Day Weekend started with the first round of the SUNY Canton 358 Modified Series, SUNY Canton/Dig Safely New York Sportsman Series and the SUNY Canton/Dig Safely New York Street Stock Series this Friday night.  Also on the schedule will be Crate Late Models, Pure Stocks, Thunder Cars and a $1000 to win 40 lap Enduro race.

The SUNY Canton 358 Modified Series was created over the off-season, and the car counts are anticipated to be high, as the Small Block Modifieds will headline the evening’s events.  This will be the first time, other than the annual 358 DIRTcar Series events, that the Small Blocks will not have to share the stage with the Big Block Modifieds. The Small Blocks will race for 25 laps and will certainly draw in some big name drivers looking to take home the $1200 that will go to the race winner.  The overall Series Champion will receive a truckload of prizes valued at over $1000, a guaranteed starting spot at the season ending Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified race on October 6th at Can Am, as well as a free website, designed and maintained by Finish Line Web Design for the 2011 racing season.  The top three overall will also receive a free season pit pass for next season.  The next SUNY Canton 358 Modified Series race will be on Friday, June 11th, 2010.

“This will be the first time, in many years that the Small Blocks wont have to race against the Big Blocks.  This is what many drivers, and fans have been wanting for a long time, and hopefully we can get the support from everyone to help get this Series off the ground”, says Can Am Motorsports Park General Manager Alana Burdick.

Also getting underway on Friday night will be the SUNY Canton/Dig Safely New York Sportsman Series.  Last year’s Champion Matt Hulsizer will be set to defend his title, and will face some tough competition throughout the Series.  The Sportsman cars will battle for 25 laps, and the winner will receive $1000.  The SUNY Canton/Dig Safely New York Series is also joined by Laura Penazek-Whitney from State Farm Insurance, VP Fuels, and Finish Line Web Design to offer the drivers a point fund worth well over $5000 to be given out at the end of the season, including a free website to the Sportsman Series Champion, designed and maintained for the 2011 racing season by Finish Line Web Design.  The next race on the schedule for the SUNY Canton/Dig Safely New York Sportsman Series will be on Tuesday, June 15th, in conjunction with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

One of the most exciting classes to watch at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park is the Street Stocks, and they will also share the SUNY Canton/Dig Safely New York spotlight this weekend with their 20 lap, $750 to win event.  Last year’s champion Ron Wadforth is no longer behind the wheel, leaving the door wide open for a new Series Champion in 2010.  The Street Stocks will also compete for a lucrative year end points fund, courtesy of SUNY Canton, Dig Safely New York, Laura Penazek-Whitney from State Farm Insurance, VP Fuels, and Finish Line Web Design.  The Street Stock competitors will share a total purse worth in excess of $5000, which also includes the free website from Finish Line Web Design for the 2011 racing season.  The next event on the Series schedule will be on Tuesday, June 15th.

“The Sportsman and Street Stocks have a huge point fund for this Series, Thanks to SUNY Canton and Dig Safely.  They both have an eight race schedule, and the overall payout for these classes is amazing”, says Alana Moncrieff.

Complementing the SUNY Canton/Dig Safely New York Series schedule on Friday night will be the rapidly growing Crate Late Model division, Pure Stocks, Thunder Cars and a 40 lap, $1000 to win Enduro.  Pit gates open at 5:15PM. Grandstands open at 5:30PM.  General Admission is just $10, children 9 and under are free, and members of the Military are free with proof of ID.  Pit admission is $20 with a DIRT license, and $25 without.

The “Hurricane” Blows through Can-Am; Hulsizer, White, Scott, Kidd, Smith and Belcher Win

May 21, 2010

Garden City NY… Steve Paine has been known as the “Hurricane” of DIRTcar Racing. On Friday, May 21, 2010, that storm flew through Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park as Paine took the checkers in the Modified division. The evening, sponsored by Watertown Power Sports also featured the DIRTcar Sportsman, DIRTcar Crate Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Thunder Cars and Purestocks.

“Last week my car would only work in one spot around the speedway and that made it hard,” commented Steve Paine from victory lane. “It was a tacky slick last week and this week it was a little drier. I don’t mind the track either way but this place is a dream. Tonight I was able to go wherever I wanted and it worked. We just worked.”

The 22 car field was led to the green by Kevin Gamble and Jason Potter. Potter controlled the opening laps as the high side of the speedway suited his car. Billy Dunn and Steve Paine quickly and quietly moved through the speedway. Dunn attempted to move around Steve Paine for the sixth position but was not able to as Paine would keep his 7x machine in control around the track. Tim O’Brien’s small block modified was a strong force early. O’Brien ran in the second position and closed the gap on then leader Potter in hopes of taking advantage of any window of opportunity. Steve Paine picked away as he moved high around Matt Billings to enter the top five before moving around Tim Kerr, Lance Willix and Tim O’Brien before finishing his pursuit to the front around Jason Potter for the lead. Billy Dunn followed him as he also picked away at the field and slip into second. The field worked around the track for 30 circuits without a yellow making an even more interesting finish. Billy Dunn hoped to overtake Steve Paine but the Hurricane prevailed and took the win.

Jordan McCreadie and Dana Aikins led the Sportsman to the green flag in their 20 lap feature event. McCreadie took control of the early race while Matt Hulsizer worked his way to the front of the field and find himself knocking on McCreadie’s back door. Matt Hulsizer sliped under Jordan McCreadie but was unable to get past him. Josh Van Brocklin continued to use the bottom of the speedway to control the third position. Matt Hulsizer was able to get past McCreadie and Josh Van Brocklin and Tom Conklin also took advantage pushing McCreadie to fifth. Matt Hulsizer would go on to collect the win over Josh Van Brocklin and Tom Conklin.

Nelson Bice and Taylor Caprara led the Street Stock Feature to the green flag in the 20 lap street stock feature event. Taylor Caprara used the high side of the speedway to take control of the field while Kenny Hamm followed Caprara on the high side and took the second position. Eli Gilbert and Mike White worked the bottom of the speedway and slipped under Kenny Hamm for the second and third position. Kenny Hamm fought back on the outside and reclaimed the third position while battling Eli Gilbert for second. Kenny Hamm and Sid Harmer pulled to the outside of Caprara in attempts to take the lead but Caprara would remain at the head of the field. Sid Harmer used a lap 13 restart to pull high around Caprara to take the lead while Mike White followed Harmer to take second. Mike White collected the win over Phil Walker and Taylor Caprara.

Phil Potts and Mike Trapp led the Late Models to the green flag with Potts taking the early command. Brandon Kidd patiently moved through the bottom of the speedway and by lap two put himself at the front of the field. Lee Gill rode the bottom of the speedway behind Kidd and slipped into the second position while Mark Webb sat in position number three. Brandon Kidd continued to lead while Lee Gill and Kidd battled heavily for the lead as the laps clicked away. Brandon Kidd went on to collect the win over Lee Gill and Phil Potts.

The front row of the IMCA feature event was led to the green by Jeff Rush and Brandon Tefft. John Williams was the early race leader as he jumped up from the fourth starting spot to command the field. Ray Bechler flew through the pack and moved around Rob Martin and Zak Petrie to take the lead on the field. John Williams moved under Steve Malbouf for the fourth position while the yellow flag would fly creating a one lap shootout. Zak Petrie pulled to the outside of Ray Bechler as the field was given the green for the final lap. Petrie tried with all his might but it wasn’t enough as Bechler would take the win over Zak Petrie and John Williams.

Jeremy Lacoe and Rick Duskas led the IMCA Modifieds to the green. Dale Jewett headed into the lead by moving around Lacoe as two laps were down in their 15 lap feature event. Ryan Scott powered on the outside around Dale Jewett to take the lead while Rick Duskas and Chris Thurston also moved around Jewett for second and third. Ryan Scott went on to collect the win over Rick Duskas and Chris Thurston.

Shawn Kirby and Pete Cross led the Purestocks to Matt Burdick’s green flag with Shawn Kirby taking the early lead on the field. Kevin Smith used a lap seven restart to move around Kirby and take the lead on the field while Roger Bushey moved around David Rogers for the third position. David Rogers fought back and moved around Bushey for the position. Verne Harris moved under Roger Bushey to take the fourth position. When the checkered fell Shawn Kirby collected the win over Kevin Smith and David Rogers.

Dampening Rain Halts Action at Chapman’s Can-Am

May 7, 2010

Garden City NY… While much of the North Country experienced beautiful blue skies for much of the day Friday, quickening clouds rolled in along with dampening rains to prevent racing action at Chapman’s Can-Am on Friday, May 7, 2010. While hot laps took the half mile speedway, dark rain clouds rushed through preventing the completion of hot laps and forcing officials to cancel the nights racing action.

“It’s rather unfortunate,” stated Alana Moncrieff, the tracks General Manager. “AJ and his crew prepared a lightning fast track for us tonight. We had almost 100 cars in the pit area along with fans. We really hoped it was just a passing shower and that we would be able to get the racing in, but the rain lingered too long and it just wouldn’t let up.”

Racing action will resume at the North Country speedway on Friday, May 14th. The Big Block/Small Block Modifieds will be in action along with the DIRTcar Sportsman, DIRTcar Crate Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Thunder Cars. The pure stocks have been added to the line up as well. All rain checks will be honored on the May 14th date along with any fundraiser tickets from May 7th

Paine Takes Mod Mains; Sears, Walker, Scott, Kidd and Petrie Take Checkers

April 30, 2010

Garden City NY…  Steve Paine will call his Friday night home during the 2010 season Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park. After facing mechanical woes on opening evening, Paine forced a comeback and collected the modified feature main sponsored by Laura Penazek-Whitney with State Farm Insurance and Savory Café.

“This track is so fast,” Paine commented from victory lane. “Sometimes it feels like your driving on the thruway at high speeds, it’s just fast. It was a great speedway surface and we were lucky that lap traffic held up Billy (Dunn) because he was coming after me. I seemed to work better on the bottom and Billy was on top, there was two grooves and both were fast.”

Steve Paine would command the field in the opening stages of the feature event while Lance Willix, Billy Dunn and Justin Haers would all sit right outside of the top five. Haers would slip to the outside of Tim Sears to control the fourth position while Billy Dunn would begin his assault on Sears for fifth. Tom Sears would pull the surprise on the top five as he would sling shot by Tim Sears and Billy Dunn to take the fifth position while Paine would continue to lead the way. Lance Willix would use the pick and roll in lap traffic to take the second position and would begin to set his sights on leader Paine. Billy Dunn would slip under Luke Whittaker to enter the fifth position. Dunn would swing to the top of the speedway and in one swoop would put himself in the number two position and hot on the trail of Paine. It would not be enough to reel in Steve Paine as he collected the win.

Rod McDonald and Brad Winters would lead the Sportsman to the green with Tim Sears jumping out to the early lead. Chris Raabe would use the bottom of the speedway to pick through the field and would quickly enter the second position by lap 8. Sears would continue to lead the way while Raabe, Matt Hulsizer, Jamie Platt and Tom Conklin would round out the top five. Adam Turner would slide high around Shane Pecore to enter the top five while Chris Raabe would try to track down the leader, Tim Sears. Adam Turner and Dylan Evoy would slip past Shane Pecore to enter the top six while the field received the two to go sign from starter Matt Burdick. Chris Raabe would use the top side to sling shot around the speedway while Matt Hulsizer would follow Raabe’s line but it wouldn’t be enough as Tim Sears Jr., would collect the win.

Sid Harmer would take the early command of the Street Stock 20 lap feature event. Harmer, who started on the outside pole, would lead the pack into turn number one while pole sitter Eli Gilbert and Mike White would round out the top three. Tiger Chapman would begin his assault on the field as he would use the bottom groove to move under Al Harris to enter the top five. At the half way mark, Sid Harmer would continue to leave the field while Tiger Chapman would slip to the inside for the second position while Phil Walker, Kenny Hamm and Eli Gilbert would complete the top five. Phil Walker would ride high around the speedway and take command of the field as the two laps to go signal was shown to the field. Phil Walker would collect the win over Sid Harmer and Tiger Chapman.

Greg Belyea led lap one in the Late Model Feature event while Erik Cupernall and Elmer Stevenson would fill out the top three. Lee Gill would make a home on the back of Elmer Stevenson’s back bumper as the two would be nose to tail battling for position number three. Lee Gill would jump into the second position and he and Greg Belyea would drag race around the speedway with Gill coming out the victor. Brandon Kidd would slide through the pack to enter the third position while Elmer Stevenson and Jordan Keruskie would complete the top five. Greg Belyea slid to the top of the speedway on a restart which gave Kidd the opportunity to slip under him for the second position while Lee Gill would continue to lead the way. Kidd and Gill would battle side by side for numerous laps for the lead, but when the checkers fell, Brandon Kidd would collect the win over Lee Gill and Greg Belyea.

Jeremy Lacoe and Shawn Kirby would lead the IMCA Modifieds to their green flag with Lacoe grabbing the early command. Dale Jewett would power high around Shawn Kirby to take the second position while Ryan Scott would look to the high side of Rick Duskas for fourth. Dale Jewett would slip to the outside of Jeremy Lacoe and take the lead while Ryan Scott would move into the second position. Scott would go on to collect the win over Chris Thurston and Dale Jewett.

Larry Tefft and Steve Malbouf would lead the Thunder Cars to the green flag with Steve Malbouf taking the early lead on the field. Rob Martin would slip to the inside of Larry Tefft and take over the second position while Tefft would fight back and retain the position. Zak Petrie would then look under Rob Martin and claim position number. Zak Petrie would click off Rob Martin, Larry Tefft and Steve Malbouf to take over the command of the field. As the checkered flag dropped, Zak Petrie would claim the win over Larry Tefft and Rob Martin.

Chapman’s Can-Am will resume racing action on Friday, May 7, 2010. Highlighting the night will be the DIRTcar Modifieds/358 Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, a $1000 to win feature for the DIRTcar Crate Late Models, Street Stocks, IMCA Modifieds, and Pure Stocks. A New Era of Winners at Chapman’s Can-Am

April 23, 2010

Garden City NY… A new era kicked off at Chapman’s Can-Am on Friday, April 23, 2010 as Drive America/Watertown Auto Sales and Laura Penazek –Whitney presented full fendered action under the new ownership of Tiger Chapman. After Mother Nature’s rainout’s last weekend, the track and drivers were more than ready to kick off the 2010 racing season. Taking center stage were the DIRTcar Big Block and Small Block Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, DIRTcar Crate Late Models, Street Stocks, IMCA Modifieds and Purestocks.

Rob Bellinger kicked off the 2010 season in style as he claimed the Big Block Modified Victory. Bellinger, who has made his name known across the DIRT Circuit as he spent much of 2009 getting himself acquainted with speedways all over the North East. “We have really learned a lot,” Bellinger claimed from victory lane.

“We traveled a lot last season and it’s really paid off by what we have learned. It’s a great way to start off 2010 and I can’t thank Tiger and Alana and everyone for the great surface they gave us tonight.”

Lance Willix and Billy Dunn led the field of 28 cars to the green flag in their 30 lap feature event. Dunn would quickly take the lead but would head pit side on lap two and the steering column would malfunction, he was able to continue after seeking attention from his pit crew. Steve Paine, who has made Can-Am his home in 2010, began in the ninth position and by lap three would enter the top five. The “Pocket Rocket” Danny O’Brien would drop off the pace coming across the front stretch on lap number nine, meanwhile Justin Haers would rocket into the lead as he and Lance Willix rocketed down the back stretch.

On lap 22 of the 25 lap feature, Greg Monica would spin heading into turn number two, setting up a three lap shoot out. Haers would set himself to the bottom leaving Robby Bellinger to his outside. As the pair would receive the green flag they would race side by side as they would enter turn one and out of turn two, but that outside bite gave Bellinger the edge he needed to sail into the lead. Billy Dunn would rebound into the second position while Justin Haers would round out a top three.

Chris Raabe had a successful 2009 season as he would claim the Can-Am track championship. Raabe picked up where he left off in 2009 as he would become the victor in the 20 lap Sportsman feature event. Jordan Bennett and Shane Pecore would lead the Sportsman to the green flag while Bennett commanded the early laps in the race. Tim Sears Jr. sailed into the fifth position by lap number four and would then rocket past Matt Hulsizer for fourth.

Jordan McCreadie would make his debut appearance only to have the front end give away on lap 13, sending him pitside. Brandon Hagan would run solidly in the top five all evening as Josh Van Bocklin would settle into the fifth position. Despite many tries, the field of 29 sportsman cars was unable to gain the momentum to pass Chris Raabe as he took the win over Shane Pecore and Van Brocklin.

Dave Mannise and Sid Harmer Sr. would lead the Street stock to green in their 20 lap feature event. Jarod Radley would use the pick and roll to move by Dave Mannise to take the command of the field as they would complete lap four. Dick Parkhurst would slip under Mannise to take the second position while Tiger Chapman, Russ Marsden and Taylor Caprara would battle for fourth through sixth. Lap nine would find a battle for the lead while Dick Parkhurst and Jarod Radley would battle with Parkhurst coming out the victor. Russ Marsden would battle from his 10th place starting position up through the field to take over the second position while Tiger Chapman would fill out third. Tiger Chapman would slip under Parkhurst to take the second position while Russ Marsden would take the command of the field. As the checkered dropped, Russ Marsden would collect the win over Tiger Chapman and Dave Mannise.

Ryan Scott would collect the win in the IMCA Modified 20 lap feature event. He would take control of the race on lap one and keep control of the field. Ryan Scott and Jeremy Lacoe would lead the IMCA Modifieds to the green flag. Ryan Scott would take the command over the field early on while Shawn Kirby and Dale Jewett would follow behind. On lap six, Rick Duskas would plant himself into the second position and begin his charge on the leader while Dale Jewett, Chris Thurston and Shawn Kirby would round out the top five. Ryan Scott would collect his first win of 2010 over Dale Jewett and Chris Thurston.

In his first time in a Crate Late Model at Can-Am in 2010, Lee Gill would battle with his teammate to take the checkered flag. The Crate Late Models were led to the green by Greg Belyea and Brandon Kidd for their 20 lap feature event. Brandon Kidd would pull out on the field while Jordan Keruskie would slip under Greg Belyea to take the second position while Lee Gill held on to his original starting position of third. Lee Gill’s steady pace around the speedway would push him past Jordan Keruskie for the second position while teammate Brandon Kidd would continue to lead. A lap 17 restart would find Lee Gill to the outside of Brandon Kidd as the two would stage a side by side battle as the laps clicked away. In a one lap shootout, Lee Gill would power to the outside of Brandon Kidd but as the checkered fell Lee Gill would collect the win over Brandon Kidd and Mike Trap.

The purestock division was led to their 20 lap A-Main by Steven Gilmore and Shane Ray. Shane Ray would use the tacky outside to gain momentum around Gilmore and take the lead. Roger Bushey would work to the outside of Verne Harris to command the second position. Gilmore would look high and low in various ways around the speedway to help gain the momentum to move past Shane Ray. On lap 17 he would be successful as Gilmore would collect the win over Shane Ray and Roger Bushey.

Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park will resume on Friday, April 30th as the Big Block/Small Block Modifieds will take center stage. A regular show featuring the Modifieds, Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Pro Late Models, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks will be on the schedule.  Pit gates will open at 5:15PM, while grandstands open at 5:30PM.  Race time will be at 7:15PM.  General Admission is just $10, while pit admission will be $20 with a DIRT license and $25 without.  It is recommended that you do purchase a DIRT license, as it will certainly pay for it self over the course of the season.  Active Military members will get in free with a valid ID.

“The track is in great shape, and we are ready to go racing for 2010”, says track General Manager Alana Moncrieff.  “We are expecting a great turnout of cars, and we are hoping for a great crowd as well for the first race under the ownership of Tiger Chapman”.

Burdick has confirmed today that veteran DIRTcar racer and future DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame member Steve Paine will race at Can Am each Friday night during the 2010 season.  Paine has won many races, and championships over his illustrious career in DIRT Modified racing.

“It will be great to have Steve Paine racing here each week”, says Burdick.  “He will add to the already star studded field of DIRT Modified drivers that will be competing for the Track Championship this season.”

Number One Speed, Laura Penazek-Whitney State Farm Insurance, Watertown Auto Sales and Drive America sponsor Friday night’s racing program.  Support these great sponsors that support local short track racing.

Wet Grounds and Cold Temperatures Force Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park to Cancel Opening Weekend - Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

April 17, 2010

It has been a long winter for everyone at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park, as well as the racer’s and faithful race fans that have been counting down the days until the season opener.  Unfortunately, we will have to wait just one more week, as track officials were forced to cancel the weekend events, due to wet grounds, and a forecast that included more rain, and even snow flurries overnight.

With intermittent rain for the past two days, and forecasted wet weather and cold temperatures for Sunday, Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park has canceled their season opening weekend.  Racing will begin Friday night, April 23rd, with the scheduled program consisting of Modifieds, Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Pro Late Models, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks.

“We made the decision to cancel early, because it really isn’t a good situation for anyone.  The track is a mess, the pits are a mess, and to bring everyone in here will just make it worse”, says track General Manager Alana Moncrieff.  “It is supposed to rain more today, and into tomorrow, and with our early starting time there is just no way the place will be dried out in time”.

Can Am has added a practice session for this Tuesday evening, April 20th.  The practice will be open to all divisions at Can Am, including Go Karts.  Practice will begin at 6PM, with free grandstand admission.  Pit admission will be just $10.

More information on the 2010 season at Chapman's Can-Am Motorsports Park can be found at www.canammotorsports.com or by contacting Alana Moncrieff at (646) 416-3585.

Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Series Opener Set For Can-Am On April 17

Weedsport, NY – April 13, 2010 – With the 2010 Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship Series opener just days away, the title remains up for grabs. And the final outcome is expected to stay that way throughout the entire season as top teams contend for the DIRTcar Small-Block division’s highest honor.

Defending overall points champion Dale Planck will be in contention. So will 2009 runner-up Pete Bicknell, 4th-place finisher Danny O’Brien and favorite Frenchman Mario Clair, who rounded out the Top-5 on the final chart last autumn. ‘Mr. Small-Block’ Bicknell is a three-time Mr. DIRTcar titlist, including 2008, while in ’07 Clair carried the trophy back home to Quebec for the first time since the tour’s inception in 1983.

Second-generation standout O’Brien may be the hungriest among the bunch, having placed in the front-four in overall points on a half-dozen occasions, including second in 2007, ’08 and 1993. The popular pilot from Kingston , Ont. will be back aboard the potent Kendrick Racing no. 7star Global Warranty-1000 Islands RV-Stover Bus Lines/Bicknell ride, looking to improve upon his 4th-place run in last year’s final tally.

“I’ve been here many times before, just going into this whole thing to do the best I can and let the points fall wherever,” remarked O’Brien, 42, who will launch his latest bid for the crown when Can-Am Motorsports Park hosts the Number One Speed-State Farm Insurance 75 Championship event on Saturday, April 17 with $4,000 waiting the winner.

“The bottom line last year was we embarrassed ourselves. When you get going bad its often hard to turn things around. We got in a rut and just could never get out,” O’Brien said.

Already racking up 28 DIRTcar 358 wins in his career at Can-Am, O’Brien is looking to usher in the new era for first-time track owner Tiger Chapman with a return to the winner’s circle at the spacious half-miler in Garden City , N.Y. With 11 Series victories under his belt, the ‘Pocket Rocket’ will be looking to match his lone tour triumph taken at Can-Am in 2007. Series shows scheduled the past two seasons have fallen to rain.

“Winning races and having good finishes are all that really matter at this stage of the game,” figured O’Brien, who owns 13 track titles in the DIRTcar 358-Modified ranks and stands fifth all-time with127 Small-Block feature wins. He will be back on Saturdays to defend his Brockville Ontario Speedway title for a fourth consecutive year and contend every Sunday at Cornwall Motor Speedway where he owns five season championships.

“You need a little luck, too. Seems I’ve been in this position too many times lately, and things just never went the right way when it counted most. I plan to do my best once again, just can’t give as much attention to all those things beyond my control,” O’Brien added.

Joining O’Brien and past Mr. DIRTcar kingpins Planck, Bicknell and Clair on the championship trail will be Top-10 runners from a year ago Carey Terrance, Chad Brachmann and ’09 Rookie of the Year Jeremy Wilder and sophomore racer Mat Williamson. Canadian challengers Mark D’Ilario, David Hebert, Tommy Flannigan, and Laurent Ladouceur along with New Jersey’s Rich Scagliotta are also signed up to travel, as is Danny’s older brother Pat O’Brien, himself a four-time Mr. DIRTcar Champion with nine Series wins to his credit.

The Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship Series gets underway at Can-Am with Small-Block teams also starting to accumulate points at their weekly home tracks. In 2010, points earned in the Mr. DIRTcar champ trail combined with bonus points issued after Labor Day from a driver's hometrack will determine the overall titlist. Each licensed track champion will receive 1,000 points, with the 25th-place driver earning 900 at his best track during the year.

Can-Am pit gates are scheduled to open at 12noon., grandstand seating begins at 1 o’clock with races starting at 4:00 p.m. Adult General Admission is $20, Students 10-14 yrs. are $5 each, while 9 and under are free (Canadian money at par). The pit pass fee is $25 for those holding a valid 2010 DIRTcar License and $30 without.

A Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series event joins the Saturday program while the season-opening tour stop for Pro Stock point chasers headlines the Sunday afternoon card at Can-Am.

Practice Day is Complete – It is Time to go Racing at Can Am Motorsports Park

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

April 11, 2010

With a full pit area, under eventual sunny skies at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park, the Speedway opened the doors for a test and tune session for drivers to run some laps with their new cars and get back into rhythm before the upcoming season.

Overnight rains left AJ Baker and his track preparation crew with plenty of work early Sunday morning before the cars could safely hit the track, but once the track was worked in, the drivers were ready to test their cars before next weekend’s season opener.

52 racecars took part in today’s practice session, and that number is expected to be tripled next weekend as an estimated 150 cars are expected to come through the pit gate at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park during their season opening two day show.

“After the turnout we had today, all of us here at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park are very excited about getting the season underway”, says track General Manager Alana Moncrieff.  The car counts look promising for next weekend’s season opener, as well as the rest of the season.  Everyone did a great job today, and we are ready to go racing in less then a week”.

Also joining the full size cars during the practice session were the go-karts, who kept fans with one eye on the 1/10th of a mile karting track located behind the main grandstands.  Over 50 karts entered for the test and tune session, many were young kids in the karts for the first time.  The go karts will race every Saturday night during the year, and they always put on and entertaining race, and grandstand admission is free.

Reserved seats and Season Passes are still available for the upcoming season.  If you have a favorite seat at the track, and want to insure it is yours for the season, contact Alana, and he can set it up.  Season Passes are also available through Alana, and you can save some valuable time by not having to wait in the long line to purchase tickets during the big events if you have your season pass in hand.  It will also save you some money if you are a regular at the track each week.

April 9 2010

Drivers will be flying around the track at the Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park this season in pursuit of the ‘Flying High’ Award which is being sponsored by the Mohawk Valley Community College Aviation Maintenance Training Center.

This bonus is open to all divisions at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park. To be eligible for the award, drivers must run a MVCC Aviation Maintenance Training Center decal on both sides of their car, and win at least one race during the 2010 season. Open Practice Kicks off Busy Schedule at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

April 4 2010

After a long cold winter, drivers, crewmembers, track officials and race fans can finally get back out to the race track, as Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park starts the season with open practice for all divisions.

Practice day will be Sunday April 11th, from noon until 4:00PM.  Pit Admission will be just $10, while general grandstand admission will be FREE.  Pit gates will open at 11:00AM.  Go Kart racers are also invited to practice, as they kick off their season on Friday April 16th.

Open practice is a great way for race teams and crewmembers to get back in sync after a long winter away from the racetrack.  Many drivers have new racecars or have updated their car from the previous season, and practice gives them a chance to get out on the track to give the car a good run before the season gets under way.  A minor fault in the car that could have been found with a few laps of practice may impact a driver’s championship run.  Other drivers that have never raced before will find open practice to be a great way to get valuable time behind the wheel before opening night begins.

“Not only is great for the drivers to get some laps in before the season starts, its also great for everyone here at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park to get everything in place for next weekend’s opener”, says track General Manager Alana Moncrieff.

Sunday’s practice is also a great opportunity for race fans to come out to the track and purchase their season passes for the 2010 season.  Reserved seating is also available and can be purchases at the track this weekend.

The following weekend will be a doubleheader weekend special, and a great way to kick of the 2010 racing season.  On Saturday, the 358 Mr. DIRTcar Series will highlight the season opener as well as the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series.  On Sunday, the 358 Modifieds are back as the headline division with the SUNY Canton Series as well as a Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock event.

More information on practice day, opening weekend or the 2010 season at Chapman's Can-Am Motorsports Park can be found at www.canammotorsports.com or by contacting Alana Moncrieff at (646) 416-3585.

Can Am Motorsports Park Welcomes Mike Mallett to the Nasty Track of the North

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

March 14, 2010

Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park has hired Mike Mallett as new track announcer, and will work alongside the long time voice of Can Am, John Burr for the 2010 racing season and beyond.

Mallett is no stranger behind the microphone, as he has 6 years of experience on the job, often in excess of 3 nights per week.  His announcing duties first began at the Afton Speedway, near Binghamton, New York and that experience promptly landed him with a similar role at the historic Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, New York later that year, calling races for the Pro Stock and Street Stock divisions.

Mallett has always been a race fan, right from the beginning, and he, along with his parents were weekly visitors at the legendary Fonda Speedway, which certainly highlight some of his greatest memories of this sport.  In 2006, the opportunity to announce at the track presented itself, and Mallett was quick to jump at the chance to work at a track that held so many fond memories.  In that same year, he also became the track announcer at the Utica Rome Speedway in Vernon, New York.

Mallett continued his announcing duties at Fonda and Utica Rome, and also added to his duties by becoming the traveling announcer for the Empire Super Sprints at the beginning of 2008.  Mallett will continue each of his other duties, as well as making Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park his new Friday night home.

“I am really excited at the opportunity to work with Tiger (Chapman), and (General Manager) Alana Moncrieff this year at Can Am”, says Mallett.  “They have a very interesting schedule, a strong weekly program, and the people are great.  It will be a fun and exciting season”.

Mallett has been behind the microphone for some big racing events, including the Victoria 200 at Fulton, and then at Utica Rome when they took over the name.  He has also called the National Sprint Tour 410 Sprint Car race at Fonda Speedway, which is one of the highlights of his 6-year announcing career.

Track Bonus Points Needed To Earn Mr. DIRTcar Championship In 2010

Weedsport, NY – March 11, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski , DIRTcar Racing Northeast Series PR Director

One of the most prestigious titles a driver can hold in short-track auto racing today remains that of the overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Champion.

Hoosier-VP Mr. DIRTcar champs in 2010 will once again be determined by tabulating points earned in the Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds and the Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series for 358-Modified, Sportsman and Pro Stock teams, along with bonuses collected at a driver’s respective home track in each divisional DIRTcar Regional Racing Series.

“Each touring series will continue to account for the bulk of the points towards our Mr. DIRTcar titles, yet bonus points picked up at a weekly home track will be just as valuable,” noted Joe Skotnicki, DIRTcar Northeast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning. “Participation throughout the season, on weekends and in mid-week shows, offers as many teams as possible the chance to maximize their earnings both at home and on the road.”

Points earned in either the season-long Super DIRTcar Series or Mr. DIRTcar Championship trails combined with bonus points issued after Labor Day from a driver's hometrack will determine the overall titlist in 2010. Each licensed track champion will receive 1,000 points, with the 25th-place driver earning 900 at his best track during the year.

The customary 100-point format will be in effect for all four series, with the Big-Block division experiencing the only exceptions during All-Star Weekend at Cayuga County Fair Speedway and in those events staged after August. The 60-point structure will be used at Cayuga County in the 50-lap main event on July 16 as well as each of the three features comprising the All-Star 100 on July 17, while the 150-point profile will be followed for six events beginning Sept. 5 at Cayuga County . Complete track and series point guidelines are listed in the Official DIRTcar NE Rulebook.

For further questions regarding the 2010 Mr. DIRTcar Championship format or race schedules, please contact Director Joe Skotnicki (704/796-4566) or log into the homepages at www.superdirtcarseries.com and www.dirtcar.com to find out more about the entire circuit.

VP Announces Spec Fuels For DIRTcar Racing In 2010

“D” brand fuels introduced for all classes this season

Newark, DE – March 2, 2010 - From Tom Skibinski , Super DIRTcar Series PR Director

VP Racing Fuels, in conjunction with officials from the World Racing Group, DIRTcar Northeast Region and the Super DIRTcar Series, today announced the introduction of their exclusive “D” brand spec fuels for mandatory use by all Super DIRTcar teams effective April 1, 2010.

“We had great success implementing the C12, VP110 and Motorsport 109 spec fuels in the U.S. and Canada last year,” said Jim Kelly, Regional Manager for VP. “Yet in an effort to eliminate the use of mixed or non-compliant fuels and to better track sales which will continue to ensure spec fuel purchase and use, in addition to better managing the year-end track and series awards, together we developed this program for the new season.”

Effective April 1, Super DIRTCar will require the exclusive use of VP’s D12 fuel for the Big-Block Modifieds, the exclusive use of D12, D110 or D109 unleaded for the 358-Modifieds, and the exclusive use of D98 for Sportsman and Pro Stock teams. Mixing or blending of these or other products will not be permitted nor will use of pump gas.

“Mixing fuels, even if mixing VP spec fuels, creates an issue at inspection. Using pump gas can also complicate fuel inspection as the chemical composition and appearance of pump gas varies from county to county, state to state, and even between pump gas available in the U.S. vs Canada ,” noted Joe Skotnicki, Competition Administrator for World Racing Group and Director of Series and Sanctions for DIRTcar Northeast. “The implementation of specified fuel products makes inspection efficient, easier to track and speeds up the process for the competitor.”

The “D” fuels are the exact same chemical composition of VP’s “C” or “Motorsport” formulas but to enhance pre-race inspection and post-race analysis, VP has added specific dye colors and chemical agents to ensure the exclusive use of the spec fuels.  For performance and tuning, D12 and D110 are exactly the same in chemical composition as C12 and VP110.  D109 is the same as Motorsport 109 unleaded, with D98 the same as Motorsport 98. These fuels are only produced by VP in Newark , Delaware .

“D98 was first introduced to Sportsman Modifieds and Pro Stocks at Super DIRT Week in Syracuse last Fall and was a tremendous success in performance and racer satisfaction,” remarked Bob Dini, Tech nical Director for DIRTcar Northeast and the Super DIRTCar Series. “We gave everyone in those divisions one fuel to use which put everyone on the same page as far as cost and fuel performance. The engines performed well and many racers thanked us for leveling the playing field. D98 will be mandatory at all tracks for Sportsman and Pro Stocks without exception.”

To further enhance the tech inspection process and management of the fuel program, the new “D” fuels will be available only from VP designated trackside vendors and specified VP dealers, or direct from VP’s facility in Newark , Del.   Proof of purchase from one of these specified outlets, along with display of VP 5x7” decals on all race cars and the 3x4” VP Racing Fuels logo on driver uniforms will be required during 2010 as specified in the DIRTcar rulebook.

“We handed out a significant amount of fuel certificates at the banquet last year,” Kelly added. “The participating tracks’ 1st, 10th and 12th-place points finishers who qualified for their posted VP awards will be receiving their certificates by mail just in time to acquire the new ‘D’ fuels for the upcoming season.”

Questions about the spec fuel program can be directed to VP’s Jim Kelly at 302/368.1500; VP Tech ’s Fred Turza at 302/521.1767; World Racing Group’s Joe Skotnicki at 704/796-4566; or DIRTcar NE ’s Bob Dini at 845/358.5049.

Mike Durham and Bryan Moffatt take Can Am Enduro Victories

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

February 28, 2010

While many people stayed home to watch the NASCAR race, or the Olympic men’s hockey showdown between Canada and the USA, a few hundred diehard race fans and competitors converged at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park for the second Enduro race of 2010.

The track was a muddy mess, but that just added some excitement to the ever-popular Enduro.  47 cars took the green flag, which was delayed as cars were getting stuck on the track, while trying to line up for the initial green flag.  Attrition played a factor, as several motors blew, cars overheated or became stuck in mud.  The winner of the Hangover Enduro held back on January 2nd, Mike Durham, proved to be the last man standing, as he was the last car running.  Durham picked up $400 for his efforts, while Paul Backus and Joey Foster picked up $200 and $100 respectively.

After a short delay to clear the track, and determine who was available for the second race, the cars were lined back up for round two.  This time, however, the main track was shut down, and the infield was used for the second race, after several passes with the plow truck.  This certainly added to show, as cars were able to maneuver through the makeshift infield track a lot easier then the bigger track.

Only 15 cars were able to continue on for round too, and at the conclusion it was the Cheney Tire sponsored car driven by Bryan Moffatt that picked up the checkered flag, and earning the $400 winner’s share.  Ray Bancroft picked up the $200 runner-up prize and Zak Petrie claimed $100 for his third place efforts.

Track owner Tiger Chapman praised the drivers and fans for their patience while they worked out the issues with the track.

Thank you for baring with us. I think we all knew what we had before we even started, but the show went on.  I said it many times today, all of you Enduro guys are some of the best racers that we have. After all that happened today, I did not have one guy come up to me and complain.  I still had guys thanking me when it was all over. I don't forget stuff like that, and I will do something special to make up for this”.  Tiger also added, ”Many days I ask myself why I bought this track, and today when I saw all of the dedication from everyone, it really eased my mind knowing that I did this for people that really want to race. And lets not forget the fans that came out today and stuck it out to the end. You are true race fans”.

Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park Releases 2010 Schedule

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

February 21, 2010

Putting together a schedule for a race track is not an easy task at any level, and add that to the fact of the track being under new ownership, and having to work with other area tracks, and several of racing’s top touring series organizers, putting it all together is like putting together a puzzle, and ever piece has to fit perfectly for all that are involved.

The 2010 schedule for Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park is by far the biggest in the history of the Lafargeville, New York racetrack.  Track General Manager Alana Moncrieff has worked months planning and finalizing the details for all 29 events scheduled through the season, as well as acquiring sponsorship for all of the races.  14 different classes of racecars will take to the track at some point during the season, as World of Outlaw Late Models, 410 Sprints, Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints, Mid-state Vintage Stock Car Club, DIRTcar Pro Stocks, and several Enduro races will all join the regular weekly classes that will run at Can Am this season.  The 358 Modifieds will also be running their own separate features during each of the 6 SUNY Canton Series events.

Track owner Tiger Chapman has lowered the weekly admission prices from $12 to $10 in 2010 as well, and on these $10 nights, military members will get in free.  As in years past, Canadian money will be at par for ALL events during the season.

Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park will open their doors for the 2010 season with a practice session scheduled for Sunday April 11th.  All divisions will be invited to come and test and tune their cars before the season kicks off the following weekend.

The season opener is slated for the following weekend, and will be doubleheader weekend of action at the track.  Saturday night, the 358 Modified Super DIRTcar Series as well as the DIRTcar Sportsman series will be on the card with the SUNY Canton Street Stocks, and then the following day, the Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stocks are on the schedule with the SUNY Canton 358 Modified Series, Crate Late Models and Mod Lites.

The Month of May will be highlighted by a Memorial Day Weekend Friday night special event for the SUNY Canton 358 Modifieds, SUNY Canton Sportsman, and SUNY Canton Street Stocks.  They will all be battling for extra cash as they battle for the SUNY Canton championship in their respective divisions.

In June, the most anticipated event on the entire schedule is no doubt, the return of the World of Outlaws Late Models, and local competitors Tim McCreadie and Tim Fuller.  They will invade Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Tuesday night, June 15th, and will be joined by the SUNY Canton Sportsman and Street Stocks.  A rain date is reserved for the following night, if needed.  The following week will be fan appreciation night at the track, with just $5 admission for the night.

July will be a great month for the Sprint Car racing fans, as it will kick off with the biggest Sprint Car event in the history of both Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park and the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.

”It will be the largest and most talked about two shows in the 27 year history of the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS)”, says Dean Reynolds, of the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint Series.

That is not all for Sprint Car fans, as Monday night, July 12th, Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park will host the first ever visit for the 410 Sprints, as the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Sprints will come to town for a $5000 to win show.  This will surely bring out some of the best Sprint Cars from all over the Northeastern United States, and Canada.  This event is part of the SUNY Canton Summer Sizzler event, which will include double points events for the SUNY Canton 358 Modifieds, paying $2000 to win and SUNY Canton Sportsman, paying $1500 to win.

That is not all for July as the annual Kevin Fleming Memorial night is also on the schedule for July 9th. Admission for the Kevin Fleming Memorial will be just $6 – 6 in honor of Kevin Fleming’s car number.  Friday night July 16th will be closed for the Go Kart Weekend event that is held at the track.

As the summer heats up heading into August, the open wheel modified divisions, Big Block, 358 Modifieds, and Sportsman will go topless…by removing the roofs of the cars.  This will happen on August 13th, for the Tyler Mason Memorial night.  August will conclude with double points for all classes on August 27th.

September will kick off with another weekend doubleheader, and a return visit of the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints on Friday night, September 3rd.  It will also be the final night of DIRTcar Points, and a champion will be crowned in the Modified, 358 Modified, and Sportsman divisions.  On Saturday night, September 4th, the SUNY Canton Street Stocks and a fireworks show will be highlighting the schedule with a $1000 to win event for the Street Stocks, which will be followed up the following weekend, Friday night September 10th with twin 25-lap, $1000 to win races for the SUNY Canton Street Stocks.

The 2010 season will conclude in the month of October, with the unofficial kick-off to Super DIRT Week, on Wednesday night, October 6th for a 75 lap, $4000 to win Super DIRTcar Series race for the small block Modifieds.  The SUNY Canton Street Stocks and Sportsman will also conclude their seasons as well.  The Sportsman race will pay $2000 to the winner, the highest paying Sportsman race in the history of Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park.  They Street Stock winner will receive $1000.

Other notable nights on this years schedule will the June 4th and August 6th.  Both nights will be King of the North Country Series events against the cars from Brockville Ontario Speedway.  Each night will be followed up with a return visit to Paul Kirkland’s Brockville Ontario Speedway.

The Late Models will also have a similar series with their Canadian counterparts from the Rinaldi family owned Brighton Speedway, in Brighton, Ontario.  The Late Models will King of the North Country events at Can Am on June 18th and July 30th, and followed up each night with a round at Brighton.

The SUNY Canton Series for Sportsman and Street Stocks both have 8 races scheduled for the 2010 season, while the SUNY Canton 358 Modified Series have 6 races on the card for their inaugural season.  Finish Line Web Design will be offering up a free website for one year to the winner of each Series, and a $100 bonus if an existing Finish Line Web Design customer were to win the championship.

“I have added a SUNY Canton 358 Modified Series as they were nights that I originally was not going to even run Modifieds and also SUNY Canton wanted to do something with the 358's and thought it would be fun to give the 358 Modified racers a chance to be in victory lane by themselves and at the same time give the fans some extra Modified racing”, says Alana Moncrieff.

There are also 4 $1000 to win 40 lap Enduro races spread throughout the schedule.  Not only does each event pay $1000 to win, but also the winner will be a guaranteed started for the 2nd Annual Hangover 100 Enduro on January 2, 2011.

The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints and Can-Am Motorsports Park Showcases the St. Lawrence Shootout Weekend presented by RT. 37 Building Supply!

It will be the largest and most talked about two shows in the 27 year history of the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS).  Billed as the St. Lawrence Shootout presented by Rt. 37 Building Supply, the winged warriors will invade Can-Am on Fri. July 2nd and Sat. July 3rd where over $25,000 will be up for grabs.

Friday night’s A-Main will pay the winner $2,000 to win while Saturday’s 25 lap finale will pay an ESS record $4,000 to the winner.  Not to mention $2,000 for second and $1,000 for third with an increased purse throughout.  Last year over 30 sprints were expected to be on hand Friday before rain cancelled the event and on Saturday 38 filled the pit area.  With the added money, the car counts will climb.

The shows will be two separate full point shows for ESS which guarantees all the stars from the 360 sprint car organization.  What will make this special, ESS’ open draw policy actually makes these events open competition and with Friday having no baring on Saturday you will expect many different race teams on both nights.

“We tried the two-day weekend show last year however Mother Nature had different ideas.  But, the response was awesome.” said Track Manager Alana Moncrieff.  “We had so many campers and race teams stay the weekend.  Even on Saturday where it rained right up to 530, we had a pit full of cars and a real nice crowd.  I think we stumbled on to something here so we wanted to make a big splash.”

“The Bearup family has been a big supporter of Can-Am for 20 years and we are pleased that they have taken the title sponsorship of not only the St. Lawrence weekend but all three ESS visits” Burdick continued.  “Rt. 37 Building Supply’s name and logos are on many cars that race at Can-Am in all divisions showing their true dedication to the local racing community.”

(Media note – Rt. 37 Building Supply is also a major sponsor on Jeff Cook’s #10 ESS sprinter)

The Shootout Weekend will also be a big build up for the first ever appearance for the All-Star Circuit of Champions sprint circuit which will be on Monday, July 12th.   Many of the ESS stars will be back to support this show.  Fans are also reminded that ESS will be back on Friday Sept. 3rd of Labor Day Weekend for a return visit.

More details will be coming in the very near future with fans encouraged to visit www.canammotorsports.com and www.empiresupersprints.com for the latest up to date information.

Safe excavating begins by learning the slogan; Call 811, Before YOU Dig”. The green flag starts a race car event but an excavation project is started with a FREE Call to Dig Safely New York to arrange for locating and marking of underground facilities.

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

January 21, 2010

Whether you are sitting in the stands, turning wrenches in the pits, or behind the wheel of a racecar in 2010, you wont have to look hard to find a SUNY Canton logo on the side of a car, or around the Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park facility.  SUNY Canton has been a sponsor the past two seasons of various events at the track, including the SUNY Canton Kangaroo Kids Club, and title sponsor of the SUNY Canton Street Stock and Sportsman Series.  In 2010, SUNY Canton will also attach their name to a new five race series for the DIRTcar 358 Modifieds,

“A lot of what we do here at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park is because of the great folks at SUNY Canton”, says track General Manager Alana Moncrieff.  “We can’t thank Michael Perry and his SUNY Canton staff enough for their dedication to DIRTcar racing at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park”.

The SUNY Canton 358 Modified Series will start on Friday, May 21 with a 25 lap, $1200 to win event.  The series will return to action in June, with a pair of events on the 11th and 18th of the month.  Monday night, July 17th will be the biggest race of the series, a 35 lap, $2000 to win double points night for the SUNY Canton 358 Modified Series, which will be part of the SUNY Canton Summer Sizzler 100.  The Series will wrap up on August 21st, with another 25 lap, $1200 show.  All races will be 358 Modifieds only, and they will run their own feature on these night.

“This is just a fun series to give some of the 358 modified racers a chance to race for some extra money and enjoy the victory lane celebration with there friends and family as they will be the headline division on these nights”, says Burdick.  “The last few years we have had a lot of different people say we should go back to 358 Modifieds at Can-Am. Well this is there chance to prove to us what kind of support we get from the 358 Modified drivers as they will not have to compete against the Big Blocks in this little mini series, and they will have a chance to make some extra money at the same time”.

The winner of the SUNY Canton 358 Modified Series in 2010 will receive a 2011 Season Pit Pass worth $500, a truck load of prizes that are yet to be determined at this time, but is expected to be worth over $1500, and a guaranteed starting spot in the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Series race at Can Am Motorsports Park on October 6th.  This race is a 75 lap, $4000 to win race.

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

January 13, 2010

When Tiger Chapman took over ownership of Can Am Motorsports Park at the end of November, it was soon realized that he had a different approach then many of the great owners of the past.  Tiger has been willing to think outside the box, opening up to new ideas that have been thrown his way from drivers, crewmembers, fans and track officials.

The Hangover 100 that was held last weekend was a huge success, and coming up in just two weeks will be the inaugural JD Power sports Snowmobile Drag Races.  The track will open on Saturday, January 30th for open practice for all classes, and the racing will get underway on Sunday, January 31st.

The gates will open at noon on Saturday, and the sleds will run about four hours of practice. On Sunday, the racing will get underway with process of elimination drag racing.  Classes in competition will include up to 400,500,600,700,800,900, and up to 1000cc. 1000 and above will be one class. Modified sleds will also have separate classes, Modified pertains to the engine, anything performance enhancing will be considered modified. This includes programmers such as boondoggle. Studs are recommended but not required.

For those that are concerned about tech, and making sure each class will be kept within the rules, JD Power sports will be on hand to inspect each sled, and to ensure they are racing within the parameters of their respective division.  “JD Power sports will be looking for power programmers and any other performance products. And obviously, cc check. They know what to look for, that is there business”, says Tiger Chapman.

Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winners of each class, the amount of sleds, and fan attendance will determine the payouts.  Any sponsorship collected will go into the payouts to the winners.

Snowmobile dealers and those within the industry that sell performance products are more than welcome to set up a booth at the track during the event.  If you are interested in doing so, please contact track general manager Alana Moncrieff.

The track will be set up on the front straightaway of the big track, and it will be 500 feet in length.  This inaugural event will be sponsored by JD Power sports of Rochester, New York.  Check out their website at www.jdpracing.com

The next event on the schedule for Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park will be Sunday, February 28th.  The Twin 50’s Enduro will consist of two 50-lap Enduro races with the winner collecting $400 in each event.  Second Place will receive $200 while third place will win $100.

Mike Durham wins First Annual ‘Hangover 100’ at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

January 3, 2010

It was a cold Saturday afternoon at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park, but that didn’t stop the diehard race fans and competitors from coming out to see the first annual Hangover 100 Enduro race at the track.  Everyone battled the frigid temperatures, but was excited to be at the track for the first time in 2010.

A strong field of 32 cars entered the event, and before the Hangover 100 started, track General Manager Alana Moncrieff and track owner Tiger Chapman addressed the drivers in a pre race meeting.

“We want to thank everyone for coming out here today”, said Burdick.  This event was announced just over a month ago, and the turnout has been phenomenal”.  Tiger Chapman also addressed the drivers, and added their will be another event held at the end of February, as well as four races during the season that will qualify the winners for next January’s Hangover 100.  “We want to build this event up and next year we want to pay $2000 to the winner”, added Chapman.

Street Stock racer Kenny Hamm lead the race early, but ended up in a snow bank on the inside of turn four on lap 14.  Thunder car racer Mike Durham started from the 25th position and it didn’t take him long to come to the front.  After the conclusion of the first 50 laps, drivers returned to the pit area for a five-minute break, before resuming the final 50 laps.  Durham lead after the first 50 laps, and continued his domination through the final half.

Durham came out as the winner, pocketing $600 for his efforts.  Logan Hosley finished second picking up $300 for his efforts.  Adrian Bigelow finished 3rd, taking home $100.

Joey Foster picked up the win in the demolition derby that concluded the afternoon.  Foster picked up $500.

I would like to thank all that attended today, the drivers, the teams, the fans, and the staff. You all made my first race as owner a race that I will never forget. What better way to start off the year?  A nothing but fun day,” commented new owner Tiger Chapman.  “Congratulations to Mike Durham on his win today in the Enduro and Joey Foster on the demolition derby win.”

The next event on the schedule for Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park will be January 30th, and 31st for the Snowmobile Drag Races presented by JD Power Sports of Rochester, New York.  There will be open practice on Saturday, January 30th, followed by elimination drag racing on the 31st.

Can Am Motorsports Park Announces Series For Street Stocks and Sportsman

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

December 22, 2009

The Holiday season is upon us, but that has not slowed us down, as track General Manager Alana Moncrieff continues to work his magic behind the scenes to bring new and exciting things to the track for the upcoming season.

Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park announced today that they have teamed up with the Paul Kirkland and the Brockville Ontario Speedway for a four race series for the Street Stocks and Sportsman divisions.  Each track will run two events for each class during the season.  The four race series will kick off on Friday, June 4th at Can Am, and then continue the next night across the border at the Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday, June 5th.  The series will conclude with another weekend doubleheader on Friday, August 6th at Can Am Motorsports Park and then head north to Brockville on Saturday August 7th.

The Street Stocks will run under home track rules, and each series will pay out over $1000 total purse for the top six competitors over the four race series.  Some tracks don’t even offer that much for the Street Stocks point fund over an entire season.  A big trophy will also be awarded to each series winner.

The winner of the Sportsman series will be a guaranteed starter for the $2000 to win Sportsman event at Can Am Motorsports Park on October 7th as well as the DIRTcar Fall Nationals Sportsman Series race at Brockville on October 17th.

It is not just the drivers that will be big winners this season.  Fan involvement is top priority for both tracks this season, and they have come up with a unique way to reward the race fans.  Each series night, fans will have the opportunity to win $200, by correctly predicting the top five finishers from each night.  Fans will be able to keep their ticket stub, and will be able to use it the following night and pay just $5 admission price.

“Paul Kirkland came to me last month and he wanted to do something different for the fans to get them more involved”, says Can Am General Manager Alana Burdick.  “This will be a great series for our Sportsman and Street Stock teams, and its something that we can build on in the years to come.  Paul has ran the Brockville Speedway for nearly 15 years and has done a great job promoting his track, and I look forward to working with him this season.”

The next event at Can Am will be the ‘Hangover 100’ Enduro race and demolition derby on Saturday, January 2nd, 2010.  Race time starts at 1:00 PM, and the rain date is scheduled for the following day, Sunday January 3rd.

Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Holiday Season, and we look forward to seeing you in 2010.

Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park Hires Frank Fazio as Race Director

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

December 11, 2009

Change is in the air at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park, as the track has announced today that Frank Fazio will join the Can Am staff as Race Director for both the racecars as well as the go-karts in 2010.  Fazio is no stranger to the business, as he as accumulated many years worth of experience first as a young race fan, then as a crewmember, and track employee.

It all started at the young age of 5 for Fazio, who traveled to Watertown Speedway with his father every Saturday night.  His father worked on cars driven by Bob and Dick Ziegler.  “As a young boy, I always stood in the stands behind (track flagman) Robbie Towns”, says Fazio.  “I had my own set of flags, and I would flag the race just as Towns did”.

Fazio attended both Evans Mills Speedway as well as Can Am while he was growing up, and eventually became a crewmember for Doug Cratsenburg, who raced at Evans Mills.  After he graduated high school, he joined the Army, and was stationed near Hagerstown, MD, home of the Hagerstown Speedway.  Fazio attended the track almost every week.

While Fazio has just been hired by Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park as Race Director, he is certainly no stranger to either the track, or the new position.  Fazio first became a track employee in 1996 under the regime of Bob Thurston Jr.  Fazio applied for a job at the track and was given the position of working in the infield pit area.   In 1997 he became corner flagman, and he held that position for four seasons, working at different spots around the track.  Fazio gave up the position before the start of the season in 2002.

“In February of 2002 I had open heart surgery for a bad mitral valve in which they repaired. My wife did not think it was a good idea for me to be dodging race cars on pit road or turn four, so I gave up my position at Can Am”, recalls Fazio.  In April, Fazio got a call from Adirondack International Speedway, where he would go to work as a pit steward.  The following year, he was promoted as race director and would oversee the weekly program, and deal with the drivers questions or concerns on a weekly basis.  In 2008, he was appointed General Manager of the track.

As the door closed at Adirondack for Fazio during the 2009 season, another one opened for him, as he returned to the Can Am Motorsports Park last season to work in the tech area.  He fell right into place with the job last season, and everyone at Can Am is excited to have Fazio back at the track for the full season.

Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park General Manager Alana Moncrieff is thrilled to have Fazio on board for the upcoming season, knowing the experience that he brings to the table, and the reputation that Fazio has amassed over the years involved in racing will be great for all of the race teams at the track.

“Frank deserves a chance at doing this job as he is always the first one there on race nights and the last one to leave”, says Burdick.  “I have never had a complaint from anyone ever about him and have never had a problem with him as far as dealing with the racers.  Having Frank helping us will be a huge asset to the racers and to myself, as he is always there to make the right calls.”

As each week passes, it becomes clear that the Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park will be the place to be on Friday evenings in 2010.  Lots of exciting news will be released in the coming weeks.

Can Am Announces DIRTcar Sanction for Late Model Division

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

December 11, 2009

There has been a lot of talk around the racing forums as to what direction that Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park will go in regards to the Late Model Division.  The Crate Late Model class had its inaugural season at Can Am last season, and the popularity of the division has continued to grow as race teams prepare for the upcoming season.

The Crate Late Model class will operate under the name of DIRTcar Pro Late Models for the 2010 season.   The track would like to thank all of the drivers in this division for their input and patience while track officials made their decision.

“With the World of Outlaws race being on the schedule in the 2010 season Alana and I mutually agreed this would be best”, stated head tech inspector Alana Larmon, referring to the discussions he has had the past few days with Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park General Manage Alana Moncrieff.

The World of Outlaws Late Model race highlights the 2010 schedule, with a $10,000 to win event that will be held on Tuesday, June 16th.  This event will be called the FX Caprara Car Companies 50, and will certainly be the biggest in the history of Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park.  Local World of Outlaws stars Tim McCreadie and Tim Fuller will be on hand defending their home track against some of the greatest racers in the country.

More information on the 2010 season at Chapman's Can-Am Motorsports Park can be found at www.canammotorsports.com or by contacting Alana Moncrieff at (646) 416-3585.

2010 World of Outlaws Late Model Series Schedule Released At Performance Racing Industry Trade Show

CONCORD, NC - Dec. 10, 2009 - The 2010 World of Outlaws Late Model Series promises to be a true test of drivers' versatility. - By Kevin Kovac World of Outlaws Late Model Series PR Director

A record number of racetracks – including nearly a dozen speedways that have never before hosted a tour event – appear on the 2010 WoO LMS schedule, which was released on Thursday during the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Orlando, Fla.

Forty-seven events at 40 tracks in 19 states and two Canadian provinces are currently confirmed as part of the national tour's 2010 slate, including 10 previously-announced multi-day programs highlighted by the $50,000-to-win USA Nationals on Aug. 6-7 at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., and the expanded Firecracker 100 on June 24-26 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa.

The seventh consecutive WoO LMS season under the World Racing Group banner kicks off on Feb. 11 and 13 with a pair of 50-lap A-Mains during the 39th annual DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. It will end for the fourth straight year with the World Finals on Nov. 4-6 at The Dirt Track @ Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.

“We're very excited about the schedule we've put together for the 2010 World of Outlaws Late Model Series,” said series director Tim Christman. “The series continues to grow stronger and stronger. In 2010, we will provide fans and race teams more big-money special events and visit more racetracks across the country than in any previous season in the history of the series.

“The number of tracks that will host World of Outlaws Late Model Series shows in 2010 is a true testament to the demand for races from track promoters – and, of course, it exposes the stars of our series to more fans and creates a battle for the championship that will be won by the driver who demonstrates the best ability to adapt to different tracks and surfaces.”

Christman said he expects to add up to five more events to the schedule released on Thursday, pushing the total number of races in 2010 to what Christman called “our magic number of 50 races.” That would put the 2010 season in position to establish new records for the WoO LMS, which currently boasts all-time single-season highs of 44 A-Mains (2007) and 36 different tracks (2007 and 2008).

The centerpiece of the WoO LMS's attractive special-event schedule, which was unveiled earlier this week, will be Cedar Lake Speedway's 100-lap USA Nationals on Aug. 6-7. Back on the WoO LMS itinerary for the first time since 2005 and fourth time overall in its 23-year history, the crown jewel stands as the richest race on the '10 sked with a purse of nearly a quarter-million dollars.

Lernerville's fourth annual Firecracker 100, meanwhile, will become even bigger in 2010, growing to a three-day blockbuster that includes 30-lap, $6,000-to-win preliminary features on Thurs., June 24, and Fri., June 25, and the traditional 100-lap headliner paying $30,000 for first place on Sat., June 26. More details on the exciting weekend will soon be announced by track officials.

The USA Nationals and Firecracker 100 are two of five 100-lappers on the 2010 schedule, joining the third annual Illini 100 on April 9-10 at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway ($20,000 to win); the inaugural $25,000-to-win Commonwealth 100 on April 16-17 at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Va.; and a brand-new long-distance race paying $20,000 to win on Aug. 20-21 at Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, N.Y., that is touted as the biggest dirt Late Model event ever run in the Empire State.

Other multi-day programs featured in '10 include the DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH; the RaceFest World Championships on May 29-30 at reopened West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, which will conduct a pair of complete shows during its first WoO LMS event since 2004; the Oil Region Labor Day Classic on Sept. 4-5 at Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, Pa. (two 50-lap, $10,000-to-win cards for the fifth consecutive year); a unique short-distance (55 laps), high-dollar ($20,000-to-win) fall festival on Sept. 17-18 at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo.; and the World Finals at The Dirt Track, which will present a tripleheader featuring the World of Outlaws Late Model and Sprint Car Series and – for the first time – the Super DIRTcar Series for big-block Modifieds on Nov. 4-6.

The most critical stretch of the 2010 WoO LMS season will once again come in June and July, when almost half of the year's scheduled events will be contested during three extended regional swings that have become hallmarks of the summer slate.

The ‘Great Northern Tour' through the Northeast kicks things off, beginning on June 15 at Can-Am Motorsports Park in Lafargeville, N.Y. Three Canadian events – a first-ever show at Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ont., on June 17, and return engagements at Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, Que., on June 19 and Cornwall (Ont.) Motor Speedway on June 20 – will be followed by the first WoO LMS stop since 2005 at Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge, N.Y., on June 22 and the swing-ending Firecracker 100 spectacular on June 24-26 at Lernerville.

For the third consecutive season the WoO LMS's most far-flung swing will be the ‘Wild West Tour,' which in '10 will be condensed to five straight nights of fast-paced racing. Action begins on July 7 with the annual ‘Gopher 50' at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., which will be part of the WoO LMS for the sixth year in a row. The swing also includes events on July 8 at Superior (Wis.) Speedway, which is tentatively set to welcome the WoO LMS for the first time; July 9 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., which hosts the series for the fifth straight year; July 10 at Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, S.D. (second straight season and third time overall as part of the series); and July 11 at Ogilvie (Minn.) Raceway, a fledgling track that will gain attention by hosting its initial WoO program.

The WoO LMS will close out the busy month of July by heading east for another series-within-a-series: a Late Model Speedweek through Ohio and Pennsylvania that appears on the schedule for the fourth straight season. Central PA Speedway in Clearfield, Pa., launches the swing on July 27 with its first-ever series event, followed by shootouts on July 28 at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio (a midweek show after the three-eighths-mile utilized Saturday-night dates in recent years); July 30 at Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park; July 31 at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio, which will run on its normal Saturday night after hosting midweek affairs the last two years; and Aug. 1 at Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa.

July's only events that aren't part of a larger swing will come over the Independence Day weekend, when the series makes first-ever stops at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway on July 3 and Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, Ala., on July 4.

Other highlights of the 2010 schedule include:

* An early-season weekend in the Southeast, with events on March 19 at Ocala (Fla.) Speedway, March 20 at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga., and a track to be determined on March 21. Ocala will host the WoO LMS for the first time, while Screven's annual tour date is moving from late-summer to the spring.

* A two-night Texas swing, on March 26 at Battleground Speedway and March 27 at Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore. The tour visited Battleground for the first time in 2009 and will make its first visit to Lonestar since 2004.

* Spring dates on April 30 at Fayetteville (N.C.) Motor Speedway (tentative) and May 1 at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway, which is on the WoO LMS schedule for the first time.

* Traditional bundled events on May 13 at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar and May 15 at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway. The swing, which coincides with the spring NASCAR weekend at Dover (Del.) International Speedway, brings the WoO LMS to both tracks for the sixth time in seven years since 2004.

* Bedford (Pa.) Speedway hosts the tour for the third consecutive season, but in 2010 the fairgrounds oval's date moves up to May 28 as a lead-in to the Memorial Day weekend doubleheader at West Virginia Motor Speedway.

* A midweek date on Wed., Aug. 4, at Shawano (Wis.) Speedway that precedes the USA Nationals. The WoO LMS will appear at the half-mile oval outside Green Bay for the first time since a 1989 event there during the first incarnation of the tour.

* At least two Northeastern events on the road to the 100-lapper at Mohawk International Raceway. Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa. (Aug. 18) and Brewerton (N.Y.) Speedway (Aug. 19) return to the series after attracting huge crowds for inaugural events in 2009; an event on Aug. 17 is also in negotiation.

* The Illinois Fall Nationals at La Salle (Ill.) Speedway is scheduled for Sun., Sept. 19, following the big weekend at I-55 Raceway. It marks the fourth consecutive year that an event at La Salle appears on the WoO LMS schedule, but rain has washed out the last two races.

Just four tracks are scheduled to host multiple WoO LMS events in 2010. The Dirt Track @ Charlotte Motor Speedway leads the list with three dates (including the mid-week Showdown on Oct. 13, which could pay its winner as much as $30,000 with a passing bonus), while Volusia, West Virginia Motor and Tri-City will hold two events each (all as single-visit doubleheaders).

WoO LMS officials expect to announce additional dates in the near future.

Rule Changes, Tech Inspection and Filling the Stands Highlight Can Am Meetings

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

December 7, 2009

It has only been two weeks since Tiger Chapman has been named new owner of the Can Am Motorsports Park, and the first official role as new owner was to host a drivers meeting to discuss the 2010 season, rule changes and to discuss ideas for the upcoming season.  A crowd of nearly 100 people filled the Best Western Carriage House Inn, and members from all divisions were represented.

Chapman, a very successful businessman, is a true racer.  He has been involved in the sport for many years.  Before he became involved as a driver, he first became a fan.  Chapman emphasized several times throughout the day that he is determined to put fans back in the stands.  Lower admissions prices, and lower concession prices are just some of the things that the new Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park will be doing to help bring fans back to the track on a regular basis.  General Admission for a regular program will now be reduced to $10, as opposed to the $12 price in the past.

“I didn’t buy this track to make money”, says Chapman.  I bought this place so we would all have a place to play”, he continues.  Can Am Motorsports Park General Manager Alana Moncrieff has come up with some great ideas to get people in the stands, including handing out free tickets to local non-profit organizations, who can sell them to raise money for their cause.  This is an idea that became very popular amongst everyone in attendance.  Free tickets will also be offered weekly to members of the Military, and their families.

In the two weeks as owner, Chapman has went to work on the facility immediately, with a new pit shack already being put up, as well as a new roof on the concession stand.

The first topic of discussion was to select members from all of the divisions raced at the track that would like to act as a representative.  The representative would be the voice of their division, and would bring fellow drivers up to date on everything that is happening within their division.  If a fellow driver had a problem or complaint they would mention it to the representative, who in turn, would bring it to the attention of the Can Am management.  Each representative would be invited to attend monthly meetings, and any ideas and concerns will be addressed during these meetings.

All weekly divisions at Can Am were discussed, with rules and rule changes being the biggest topic of discussion in all classes.  Mr. Chapman went from class to class, brainstorming ideas that would be best for everyone involved.  Chapman, also made it clear that these rules will be enforced, and the track will have three crate motors available to swap, if they deem it necessary in the crate motor divisions.

“These rules are in place to keep it fair for everyone.  The consequences for cheating will be severe, and if you are caught, you can expect to be kicked out for the season”, says Chapman.  Bowtie Speed Shop in Lafargeville has made their engine dyno available for the track, and drivers and can teams can expect to have their engines tested on any given night.

One of the biggest discussions of the afternoon came within the Modified division.  The topic of splitting the class into its own separate divisions sparked a lot of debate amongst the drivers in attendance.  While no decision was made, Alana Moncrieff and Tiger Chapman stated that car counts would play a role in deciding to split the two classes up.

The go-kart class was also addressed, and the class will continue to run on Saturday evenings in 2010.  Many details are yet to be determined in the go kart class, and once more information is released, it will be available on the track website.

The track will open its doors on Saturday, January 2, 2010 with the first annual “Hangover 100” Enduro race, as well as a demolition derby.  Weather permitting, the track will also host snowmobile drag races in on January 30th and 31st, With JD Power Sports of Rochester sponsoring the event.

The 2010 schedule will be released soon, and it will be highlighted once again by the appearance of the World of Outlaw Late Models.  The season will kick off on Saturday, April 17th with a Mr. DIRTcar series event for both the Small Block Modifieds and Sportsman.   The Sprint cars will have three appearances in 2010, including a July 4th Independence Day celebration, and a Labor Day weekend event.

New Ownership Brings Enthusiasm to Can Am Motorsports Park

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

November 25, 2009

Just days after announcing his plans to purchase Can-Am Motorsports Park from the Caprara family, new owner Tiger Chapman, a businessman from the Rochester, New York area has made it clear that 2010 will be a great season at the track. Consistent rules, lower concession prices and an emphasis on filling the stands on a weekly basis are just a few items that Chapman will look to address as the new season approaches.

“We had talked about this deal for a while now with the Caprara family,” Chapman said. “The track was almost sold last year to another buyer, but it fell through. When the opportunity came up again, we just decided to go for it.”

Chapman is a racer at heart, competing for many seasons, most recently in the Street Stock division at Can-Am in 2009. Chapman brings a lot of enthusiasm and great ideas to a track that has struggled in recent years with getting fans to come out in support. Chapman has many ideas in efforts to bring more fans in weekly, ones he plans to implement very early in his reign as track owner.

“I started going to the track at a very early age, following our local drivers at the Evans Mills Speedway,” recalled Chapman, who has now been involved in racing for nearly 25 years. “At age 17 I raced my first event and have been hooked ever since.”

The first change that was announced came at the annual Can-Am Motorsports Park awards banquet on Nov. 21 at the Bonnie Castle Resort in Alexandria Bay. Just after being announced as track owner, Chapman asked those in the crowd if they would be interested in a 100-lap endurance race, to which there was a large applause supporting the event.

January 2, 2010 will be the first event under the new ownership. A demolition derby has also been added to the Saturday show and snowmobile races may be scheduled during the winter months, weather permitting. The endurance race, ‘Hangover 100’ will pay out $600 to the winner of the event, $300 for second and $100 for third. The Demolition Derby winner stands to collect $500. The rain date will be Sunday, January 3.

“We’ll still be running under the DIRTcar sanction, with all our divisions finalized over the next couple weeks,” remarked Can-Am General Manager Alana Moncrieff, who will continue to work hard over the off-season to secure sponsorship for the upcoming season. “We’re already looking forward to our first points event, the season-opener on April 17. Its sure to generate a lot of excitement with a Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series doubleheader for 358-Modifieds and Sportsman topping the card.”
