Van
Brocklin Completes Last Lap Pass to Win SUNY Canton Shootout Event 1 at Can-Am
By
Megan Rowe - May 23, 2013
LaFargeville
NY… Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park entertained the first SUNY Canton
Shootout event for the 2013 season on Wednesday, May 22nd.
The nights racing action, sponsored by SUNY Canton and Body Pros featured the
Sportsman division competing in a 40 lap A-Main with the winner’s share
being $2,000. Joining the Sportsman were the Go Nuclear Pro Late Models and
Pro Street’s also in racing action.
Outside
invader Nick Guererri and Brandon Hagan led the SUNY Canton and Waite Toyota
Scion Sportsman to the green in the 40 Lap SUNY Canton Shootout. Nick Guererri
led the first lap over Brandon Hagan, Josh Van Brocklin, Anthony Stockman and
Steve Hulsizer. The caution flag waved on lap 6 when Greg Kimball slowed on
the back stretch. On the restart, Taylor Caprara jumped into the top three as
he use the outside lane to rocket by Jessica Power and Josh Van Brocklin. Nick
Guererri continued to lead the way with Brandon Hagan, Taylor Caprara, Jessica
Power and Josh Van Brocklin settling into the top five. On lap 16, the next
yellow waved as Brandon Hagan stopped on the front stretch while running in
the second position. The culprit was a broken drive shaft, which would send
the former track champion pit side for the remainder of the event. On the
restart, Taylor Caprara again used the top side to move by Josh Van Brocklin
to take the second position, but Van Brocklin would fight back to reclaim the
second position and to begin his assault on Guererri for the lead. Josh Van
Brocklin would take the lead on lap 24, and as the laps clicked away Guererri
would fight back on the bottom to claim the top spot. The pair battled for the
lead with Josh Van Brocklin making his final pass on the top coming out of
turn number four for the checkered flag. Nick Guererri would finish second
while Taylor Caprara, Jessica Power, and Steve Hulsizer would round out the
top five.
The
SUNY Canton Late Models were led to the start of their 25 lap feature by Russ
Robinson and Alan Fink. Phil Pots jumped out to the early lead from his third
place starting position to lead lap one with Alan Fink, Brandon Kidd, Russ
Robinson and Billy Eisele filling out the top five. Alan Fink wasted little
time as he quickly moved into the lead by lap three. Billy Eisele was slowly
clicking his way through positions and by lap 10 had entered the top two and
began his battle with Alan Fink for the lead. Billy Eisele pulled to the
outside of Fink and drove by him at the halfway mark with Russ Robinson, Phil
Potts, Dale Caswell, Sean Beardsley, AJ Kingsley, Charlie Sandercock, Ken
Rogers and Rick Miller filling out the top ten. Track regular Billy Eisele
collected the victory over Alan Fink, Phil Potts, Dale Caswell and Sean
Beardsley.
Glen
Forward and David Rogers led the SUNY Canton Pro Street Division to the green
for their 25 lap feature event. David Rogers used the fast outer lane to take
the lead of lap number one over Sid Harmer Jr., Glen Forward, Sid Harmer and
Kenny Hamm. The caution waved on lap four when Matt Parkhurst stopped in turn
number four. On the restart, Sid Harmer Jr. took over the top spot from Dave
Rogers with Sid Harmer, Glen Forward and Kenny Hamm rounding out the top five.
On lap 14, Shawn Kirby spun in turn number four to bring out the caution flag
and another quick yellow flew for Milt Combs stopping in turn one. On the
restart, David Rogers slipped high around Sid Harmer Jr. to take the lead with
Sid Harmer, Glen Forward and Roch Aubin filling out the top five. On lap 24,
the yellow flew for Robert Martin spinning on the front stretch. This created
a last laps finish that would create the battle of the night. As the field
went green, Sid Harmer and David Rogers would battle side by side and as the
pair headed into turn number one, they bumped each other. As the pair came out
of turn two, David Rogers had the slight advantage which would carry him to
the end. David Rogers took the victory over Sid Harmer Jr., Roch Aubin, Sid
Harmer and Glen Forward.
Chapman’s
Can-Am Motorsports Park will return to racing action on Friday, May 24, 2013.
The Sportsman division will highlight the nights racing action with the
prostreet, thunder cars, late models and novice sportsman also in racing
action. The night will also host a mechanics race in all divisions. This will
be the first of many $20 a car load nights at the speedway in the 2013 season.

LaFargeville
NY… Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park with Drive America presented a full
night of racing action on Friday, May 17, 2013. The night’s action also
hosted the special Tim Dillenback Memorial event, something that is near and
dear to the Can-Am racing community. Headlining the nights racing action was
the Sportsman division along with the Thunder Car, Pro Late Models, Pro Street
Stocks and Novice Sportsman.
The
SUNY Canton and Waite Toyota Scion Thunder Car Division kicked off the nights

Bechler stopped in turn number four. On the restart, Ray Bechler kept control
of the field over Matt Zira, Shane Ray, John Holder and Jason Warner. Jason
Warner brought out the caution on lap 13 when he hit the wall in turn number
four. This created a two lap dash to the finish with Ray Bechler leading the
way. Ray Bechler went onto collect the win over Matt Zira, Shane Ray, John
Holder and Dakota Bechler.
Ken
Rogers and David McDonald led the SUNY Canton Late Models to the green for
their 20 lap event. Sean Beardsley took the lead of lap number one over Ken
Rogers, AJ Kingsley, Brandon Kidd and Mike Trapp. The caution flag waved
quickly for David McDonald who stopped in turn number two. On the restart,
Sean Beardsley kept the lead of the field over Ken Rogers, AJ Kingsley,
Brandon Kidd and Billy Eisele. Sean Bearsley and AJ Kingsley began to check
out on Ken Rogers in the third position as the two would battle for the lead
while Billy Eisele fought to maintain his position in the top five. At the
halfway mark, Sean Beardsley continued to lead the way over AJ Kingsley with

Keruskie led lap number one over Michael Prentice, Dana Aikins, Marcel Percore
and Chris Thurston. Josh Van Brocklin slowed coming out of turn number four
and came to a complete stop bringing out the caution flag. On the restart,
Jordan Keruskie took the lead over Michael Prentice, Marcel Pecore, Brian
Comeau and Jessica Power. The red flag came out when five cars all fought for
the same real estate and lost coming out of turn number four, blocking the
speedway. When green flag racing conditions continued, Jordan Keruskie kept
control of the field over Marcel Pecore, Michael Prentice, Jessica Power and
Brian Comeau. On lap 8, Michael Prentice pulled high around Jordan Keruskie
and took the lead while Marcel Pecore began to challenge for the second
position. Michael Prentice earned the halfway bonus from Massey’s Furniture
Barn while Marcel Pecore, Jessica Power, Jordan Keruskie and Brandon Hagan
filled out the top five. Marcel Pecore slipped under Michael Prentice with two
laps to go to take the lead of the field. Marcel Pecore collected the win over

Rick
Dusckas and Shawn Kirby led the SUNY Canton Pro Street Division to the green
flag in their 20 lap feature event. Shawn Kirby led lap number one over Matt
Parkhurst, Ken Hartshorn, Rick Dusckas and Milt Combs. On lap five, Shawn
Kirby was still leading the way over Ken Hartshorn, Matt Parkhurst, Sid
Harmer, and David Rogers. At the halfway mark, Shawn Kirby was leading the way
making him eligible for the Thomas Trash halfway bonus. Following Kirby was
Matt Parkhurst, Ken Hartshorn, David Rogers, Sid Harmer, Jason Gilmore, and
