With the 2014 racing season wrapped up at the big track at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park, Tiger Chapman, along with track General Manager Alana Moncrieff would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the drivers, race teams, officials, staff, and the race fans for their continued support throughout the season.

Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park would also like to offer our congratulations to our 2014 Track Champions.  Josh VanBrocklin was the Sportsman champion at Can Am in 2014 with 4 feature wins, 8 top five finishes, and 10 top ten finishes in 11 event this season.  VanBrocklin won the title by 16 points over Taylor Caprara, with Luke Whitteker, Nick Webb and Rick McCready rounding out the top five positions.

Shawn Kirby had a great season in the Pro Street division, earning his first Can Am track championship title.  Kirby posted 4 wins on the season, and also collected 10 top five finishes and was inside the top 10 in all 11 events entered this season.  Kirby won the title by 80 points over second place Rob Martin while Mike Durham, Mike White and David Rogers completed the top five.

For the second year in a row, Charlie Sandercock won the Pro Late Model Track title, but it came down to the final night as Phil Potts gave Sandercock all he could handle throughout the season.  Charlie posted five wins on the season along with 7 top five finishes and was in the top 10 during all 9 events in 2014.  Potts finished the season in second place, trailing Sandercock by just 17 points.  Billy Eisele, Mike Trapp and Caley Weese rounded out the top five.

The most dominant car all season in any division was in our Thunder Stock class as Phil Desormeau II captured the 2014 championship with 8 feature wins in 10 starts.  He also finished in the top five in both races that he didn’t win.

In the Novice Sportsman Class it was a battle of the Gill Brothers all season long as older brother Riley topped the field with 5 feature wins in 8 events.  Brady Gill finished the season in second overall in the division with a pair of wins.  Amy Holland, Haiden Burdick and Hunter Schwander rounded out the top five.

Before we officially wrap up the 2014 racing season at Can Am, we still have one more event on the schedule as the New York DIRT Kart Series invades Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Saturday, September 27^th.  Over 130 Karts are expected to be on hand for this event.  Event details can be found on the Can Am website listed below.

After a great week at Can Am Motorsports Park last Friday night, we will be back in action once again this Saturday, September 13^th for our final event on the big track as the GRIT Racing Series returns once again for a $1200 to win 40 lap main event with extra cash added to the purse making it at least $150 just to start the race.  We will also have another Street Stock vs. Pro Stock Challenge with 25 laps and $600 to win on the line and $100 to start.  The Thunder Stocks are also on the card with a $250 to win main event along with a $300 to win race for the Mod Lites.  Novice Sportsman are also on the schedule.  We will conclude the evening with a Cheney Tire 30 lap Enduro paying $500 to win and $100 for second.

Saturday night’s event will also be part of the Thunder in the 1000 Islands Series presented by Deline’s Auto Body and VP Race Fuels. The program will be sponsored by Whitesboro Plow Shop of Watertown, Watertown Auto Sales and Drive America. And our partners Abetter.bid will present their new shipping service. They are one of the best salvage cars auctions that ship across the states. The GRIT Racing Sportsman Series will surely bring in a lot of invaders, but local favorites Josh VanBrocklin, Taylor Caprara and a host of others will be looking to defend their home track.

“We had a good week here last week with 33 Sportsman cars signed in and we expect a similar turnout again this week”, says Can Am General Manager Alana Moncrieff.  “Hopefully everyone will come on out for our final event of the 2014 season and we can end the year on a high note.  We had some great racing last week in all divisions, and we are looking forward to another great night on Saturday”.

General Admission for Saturday night is only $12 for adults.  Ages 13-15 will be admitted for $5.  As always, children 12 and under are admitted FREE when accompanied by an adult.  Military members are half price.  Pit Gates open at 5:15PM, Grandstand area opens at 6PM.  Racing starts at 7:00PM.

Garden City NY… Ferris Mowers, Tug Edge, Home Deli & Ben Shoen Home Improvements presented a full night of racing action on Friday, September 5, 2014. Headlining the night was the GRIT Series for the Sportsman which featured a 40 lap A-Main. Also in racing action were the Pro Stock/Street Stock Challenge, Mod Lites, Thunder Stocks and Novice Sportsman.

Kevin Forster and Mike Rainville led the Mod Lite division to the green for their make up feature. Kevin Foster jumped out to the early lead over Harley Brown while Brad Reif, Rich Rainville and Matt Rainville filled out the top five. Harley Brown began to real in Kevin Foster to challenge for the lead. Harley Brown took over the lead from Foster while Rich Rainville entered battle for the lead. Harley Brown went on to collect the win over Kevin Foster and Rich Rainville.

The Pro Street Division Massey’s Furniture Barn, Whitesboro Plow Shop of Watertown, A-Verdi Storage Containers kicked off the night’s regular racing action. Sid Harmer sr. and Shawn Kirby led the field to the green with Sid Harmer taking the lead of lap number one of Shawn Kirby and Steven Gilmore. The caution flag waved on lap 7 when Milt Combs slowed in turn number four. Sid Harmer continued to lead the way over Shawn Kirby with Kirby applying greater pressure for the position. Mike White continued to watch from the third position while Gilmore and Terry Ladouceur filled out the top five. As the two to go sign was shown, Shawn Kirby slipped to the inside to take over the lead while Harmer and White followed closely to take the spot. As the checkered flag flew, Shawn Kirby took the win at the line over Sid Harmer, Mike White, Terry Ladouceur, and Burton Ward.

Josh Verne and Phil Desormeau led the Whitesboro Plow Shop, A-Verdi Storage Thunder Stock Division to the green for their 12 lap feature event. Phil Desormeau took over the lead of lap one over Josh Verne, Matt Marcinko, Nick Trapp and Shane Ray. Nick Trapp pulled to the outside of Matt Marcinko to challenge for the lead. The top four cars began to pull away to battle heavily for the lead with Phil Desormeau showing the way. Matt Marcinko pulled to the outside of Josh Verne to take the second position. At the checkered flag, Phil Desormeau took the win over Shane Ray and Francis White.

Steve Barber and Tiger Chapman led the GRIT Sportsman Series to the green flag for their 40 lap event. The Sportsman field began their race with a special tribute to Brandon Hagan, the Sportsman driver who was killed last weekend in a ATV accident. The race began with a four wide salute before getting into position to begin their 20 mile journey. As the green flag waved, Tiger Chapman took the lead of lap number one over Steve Barber, Anthony Stockman, Brandon Sweet and Connor Cleveland. The caution waved on lap one when Chris Thurston and David Rogers came together in turn number three. On the restart, Chapman continued to lead the way over Barber, Brandon Sweet, Anthony Stockman and Taylor Caprara. Chapman continued to show the way at the lap ten mark but Brandon Sweet was closing the gap and began to challenge for the lead. The pair began to work through lap traffic which allowed Sweet to close the gap even more. Brandon Sweet and Steve Barber both suffered from right rear flat tires which allowed Josh Van Brocklin and Jack Meeks the opportunity to move into the top five. Tiger Chapman continued to show the way while Luke Whittaker, Anthony Stockman, Van Brocklin and Meeks filled out the top five as the field cross the lined for the halfway mark. Chapman kept setting the pace on the field while Luke Whittaker and Jack Meeks continued to follow in pursuit of the top spot. Tiger Chapman went on to collect his first sportsman victory over Jack Meeks, Josh Van Brocklin, Anthony Stockman and Dave Marcucilli.

Joe Isabell and Brad Reif led the Mod Lite Feature to the green flag in their 12 lap feature event. Joe Isabell took the lead of lap number one over Reif, Matt Rainville, Jeff Isabell Jr, and Harley Brown. At the halfway mark, Joe Isabell continued to lead the way over Jeff Isabell, Matt Rainville, Rich Rainville and Kevin Foster. Joe Isabell collected the win over Jeff Isabell Jr, Matt Rainville and Derrick Ellsworth.

Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park will return to racing action on Saturday, September 13, 2014. Garden City NY… After two consecutive weeks of rainouts, Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park returned to racing action on Friday, August 29, 2014. The nights racing action featured a complete show for all divisions while all the points champions were crowned for the 2014 season. The track also took a moment to remember Kevin Ward Jr., the driver who was tragically killed on August 9, 2014, from nearby Port Lyden, New York.

Mike Trapp and Billy Eisele led the SUNY Canton Bear World, Whitesboro, PlowShop of Watertown, A-Verdi Storage Containers Late Models to the green flag. Mike Trapp used the bottom to take the lead over Billy Eisele, Elmer Stevenson, Charlie Sandercock and Phil Potts. Charlie Sandercock, the current point leader, used the bottom part of the speedway to slip into the second position as he began to track down Trapp at the front of the field. Trapp and Sandercock distanced themselves from the rest of the field while Phil Potts and Greg Belyea battled for the fifth position. At the halfway mark, Sandercock began to apply pressure on Trapp for the lead while Eisele sat in third and Potts and Stevenson battled for fourth and fifth. Charlie Sandercock took the lead with two laps to go as he dived under Mike Trapp in turn four. Charlie Sandercock collected the win and the 2014 Pro Late Model Track Championship. Mike Trapp, Billy Eisele, Phil Potts and Elmer Stevenson rounded out the top five.

The Whitesboro Plow Shop, A-Verdi Storage Thunder Stock Division was led to the green by Pat Sullivan and Matt Marcinko. Phil Desormeau took the lead of lap number one over Matt Marcinko, Nick Trapp, Don Woodworth and Pat Sullivan. Nick Trapp lost a tire on lap 7 to bring out the yellow flag. On the restart, Matt Marcinko attempted to move under Phil Desormeau but Desormeau showed the power he had in his car as he continued to hold the lead. Phil Desormeau collected the win over Matt Marcinko, Patt Sullivan and Don Woodworth. Phil Desormeau also collected the 2014 Thunder Stock Points Crown.

Sid Harmer Jr. and Jamie Platt led the Dig Safely NY, Whitesboro Plow Shop of Watertown, Subway Sportsman to the green in their 25 lap feature event. Sid Harmer Jr led lap number one over Jamie Platt, Chris Thurston, Mike Prentice and Nick Webb. Nick Webb and Brandon Sweet quickly slipped into second and third position while Tiger Chapman sat in sixth looking to enter the top five. The caution waived on lap five when a car slowed in turn number four. On the restart, Nick Webb slipped under Sid Harmer Jr and took the lead while Brandon Sweet, Jamie Platt and Tiger Chapman filled out the top five. Brandon Sweet slipped to the inside Sid Harmer Jr. to take the second position. Meanwhile, Josh Van Brocklin and Luke Whittaker, who were first and second in points heading into the event were battling heavy for the sixth and seventh positions. The caution waved with eight laps left in the event when David Rogers was showing heavy smoke. On the restart, as the field was coming around to complete the lap, second in points, Luke Whittaker pulled out of line with a right rear flag tire, bringing out another caution period. On the restart, Nick Webb used the highline and allowed Brandon Sweet to pull in front of him to take the lead. Josh Van Brocklin entered the top five while Taylor Caprara slid around Tiger Chapman for third. Brandon Sweet went on to collect the victory over Nick Webb, Taylor Caprara, Jeff Stevenson and Josh Van Brocklin. Josh Van Brocklin took the 2014 Sportsman Track Championship.

Mike White jumped out to the lead over Robert Martin and Milt Combs. Mike White and Robert Martin began a heavy battle for the lead as the field approached the halfway mark. Robert Martin took over control of the field while Shawn Kirby, the current points lead, sat in the third position watching as the battle in front of him unfolded. The caution waved on lap 10 when Steve Toomey spun in turn number four. On the restart, as the field was coming across the front stretch, leader Rob Martin slowed and came to a stop in turn one bringing out another yellow flag. Shawn Kirby and Mike White battled at the front of the field with White showing the edge. Shawn Kirby fought back on the inside and took control of the field. Shawn Kirby collected the win along with the 2014 Pro Street Track Championship. Mike Durham, Sid Harmer Sr., Dick Parkhurst and Irv Miller filled out the top five.

After getting rained out last week, Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park will return to action this Friday night with an action packed schedule.  We will feature a full program of Sportsman, Pro Late Models, Pro Streets, Thunder Stocks and Novice Sportsman and we will also be joined by the Mod Lites with a regular program and their May 9^th makeup feature.  The Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club is also on hand this Friday night.

We would like to invite all of our fans and competitors to wear orange on Friday night as we honor Kevin Ward Jr.  We attempted to honor him last Friday night, but Mother Nature had other plans.  Please wear orange show your support.

On Friday, August 8^th, 2014 Jack Meeks won his second feature of the season at Can Am and had his motor pulled for further evaluation.  It was determined that Meeks motor was found not to meet specs and will be penalized.

Meeks will lose all points earned to date as well as forfeit any prize money won on Friday, August 8^th, 2014.  He will also be suspended for the remaining regular track points events this season.

“Once again we are trying to maintain a level playing field for all of our competitors”, says track GM Alana Moncrieff.  “We told everyone at the start of the season that we would be pulling motors for inspection and we have done that and will continue to do it when we feel it necessary”.

Just a few days ago, Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park lost a great friend and supporter with the tragic passing of Kevin Ward Jr.  The 20 year old driver was extremely talented and had unlimited potential.  This coming Friday night, we will honor and remember Kevin.  We encourage everyone to where orange in memory Kevin and to show our respect to the Ward family.

In addition, Can Am will leave open the 13^th starting position in all eligible classes in memory of Ward and his #13.

“What happened last week was very tragic, and this is the least we can do to help honor Kevin’s name”, says Can Am General Manager Alana Moncrieff.  “The Ward family always participated in our car shows and other events, they would be one of the first people to confirm participation.  They loved racing, and they were a great supporter of Can Am”.

Kevin’s services will be held at the Trainor Funeral Home on 143 Schuyler Street in Boonville, NY. Calling Hours are this Wednesday 1-4 and 6-9 with the funeral the next day at 11. The family wants to see the biggest turn out there ever. They are very proud of Kevin Jr.

Garden City NY… Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park along with Kost Tire and Auto Car along with Massey’s Furniture Barn presented a full night of racing action on Friday, August 8, 2014. The night featured racing from the Sportsman, Late Models, Pro Street Stocks, Thunder Stocks and Novice Sportsman. The track also hosted their 2014 autograph night for all divisions.

The Massey’s Furniture Barn, Whitesboro Plow Shop of Watertown, A-Verdi Storage Containers Pro Street Division kicked off the nights racing action with their 20 lap feature event. Milt Combs and Rick Dusckas led the field to the green flag with Robert Martin jumping out from his third place starting position to take the lead. Following Martin at the line was Milt Combs, Matt Parkhurst, Steven Gilmore and David Rogers. Parkhurst slipped to the inside of Combs to take over the second position while Martin continued to lead the way. Parkhurst and Martin battled for the lead with Parkhurst having the advantage as the pair came out of turn number two and down the backstretch. David Rogers battled with Gilmore for the fourth position while Combs sat comfortably in the third position as the field reached the halfway mark. The top two began to distance themselves from the rest of the field while the majority of the field sliced and diced for position. Matt Parkhurst collected the victory with Robert Martin, Shawn Kirby, Milt Combs and David Rogers.

Pat Sullivan and Matt Marcinko led the Whitesboro Plow Shop, A-Verdi Storage Thunder Stock Division to the green with Phil Desormeau taking the lead of lap one. Following Desormeau was Marcinko, Nick Trapp, Sullivan and Rombough. Desormeau continued to led the way and began to distance himself from the rest of the field while Dalton Rombough moved under Don Woodworth to take the fourth position. Phil Desormeau collected the win over Mark Barker, Nick Trapp, Dalton Rombough, Randy Bowman and Pat Sullivan.

Sid Harmer Jr. and Chris Thurston led the Dig Safely NY, Whitesboro Plow Shop of Watertown, Subway Sportsman division was next up for their 25 lap feature event. Chris Thurston took the lead of lap one over Sid Harmer, Luke Whittaker, Nick Webb and Brandon Sweet. The yellow flag waved on lap one when Hayden Burdick slowed in turns one and two. On the restart, Luke Whittaker went three wide with Thurston and Harmer to take the lead while Jack Meeks slipped into the top five. Whittaker began to distance himself from the rest of the field while Chris Thurston battled for the fifth position with Taylor Caprara while current points leader Josh Van Brocklin watched from the seventh position. At the halfway mark, Whittaker continued to lead the way over Harmer, Meeks, Sweet and Van Brocklin. A yellow on lap 14 allowed the field to bunch up. Luke Whittaker quickly found company at his side rails as Jack Meeks battled him for the lead. Meeks took over the lead on lap 17 while Sweet, Van Brocklin and Caprara filled out the top five. Van Brocklin slipped to the inside of Sweet to take over the third position while Caprara followed Van Brocklin and took over fourth. Jack Meeks collected his second victory of 2014 over Luke Whittaker, Taylor Caprara, Josh Van Brocklin and Brandon Sweet.

Phil Potts and Caley Weese led the SUNY Canton Bear World, Whitesboro, PlowShop of Watertown, A-Verdi Storage Containers Late Models to the green flag. Phil Potts took the lead of lap one over Charlie Sandercock, Billy Eisele, Caley Weese, and Zeke McKeown filled out the top five. Phil Potts and Charlie Sandercock battled heavily for the lead as they checked out on the rest of the field. Billy Eisele, Caley Weese and Zeke McKeown filled out the top five. Sandercock would get around Potts to take the win, Billy Eisele, Caley Weese and Zeke McKeown fill out the top five.

Brady Gill and Dustin Hutton led the Whitesboro Plow Show of Watertown, A-Verdi Storage Containers Novice Sportsman to the green. Brady Gill took over the lead of the field while his brother Riley was in second and Jeff Harwood filled out the top three. Brady and Riley would spin in turn two with Riley going pitside. Brady Gill wasted little time moving back to the front over Jeff Hardwood and Rob Graham. Brady Gill picked up the win over Harwood and Graham.

Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park will return to racing action on Friday, August 15, 2014. Headlining the nights racing action will be the Sportsman Modified division. Also in competitive action will be the Pro Street Stocks, Late Models, Thunder Stocks and Novice Sportsman. Garden CityNY… Chapman’s Can-AmMotorsportsPark along with FABCO, Sundance Leisure and Massey’s Furniture Barn presented a full night of racing action on Friday, July 25, 2014. The beautiful summer night was headlined by the Sportsman Modifieds competing in a 25 lap feature event. Joining them in action were the Pro Street Stocks, Pro Late Models, Thunder Cars, Thunder Stocks and Novice Sportsman.

The Whitesboro Plow Shop, A-Verdi Storage Thunder Car Division kicked off the nights racing action with Pat Sullivan and OJ White leading the field to the green flag in their 12 lap feature event. OJ White took the lead of the field as the pack moved into turn number one over Dakota Bechler and Ray Bechler. White along with both Bechler boys began to check out on the rest of the field as they battled for the front three positions. The caution flag waved on lap four when Pat Sullivan stopped in turn three and four. On the restart, Dakota Bechler pulled to the outside of White to take over the lead as the duo set sail down the back stretch. Ray Bechler would then take his shot at White to take claim of the second position as the halfway sign was shown to the field. Dakota and Ray Bechler then began their battle for the top spot while OJ White watched from the third position. Dakota Bechler collected the victory over Ray Bechler, OJ White, Nick Trapp and Pat Sullivan.

Mike Trapp and David McDonald led the SUNY Canton Bear World, Whitesboro, PlowShop of Watertown, A-Verdi Storage Containers Late Models to the green in their 20 lap feature event. Trapp took the lead of lap one over McDonald, Phil Potts, Caley Weese and Charlie Sandercock. Sandercock quickly took to the low side of the speedway and clicked off positions to the front until lap 8 when he took the lead of the field from Trapp. At the halfway mark, Sandercock continued to lead the way over Trapp, Potts, McDonald, and Weese. Sandercock checked out on the rest of the field while the battle began to heat up for the second position between Trapp and Potts as Potts would use the inside groove to attempt to duck under Trapp to take the spot. On a lap 18 restart, Potts slipped to the inside of Sandercock and took the lead. Phil Potts collected the victory over Caley Weese, Mike Trapp, David McDonald, and Billy Eisele.

The Dig Safely NY, Whitesboro Plow Shop of Watertown, Subway Sportsman was next on the docket for their 25 feature event. Bill Plooy took the lead of lap number one while Rick McCready, Mike Prentice, Brandon Sweet and Tyler Meeks filled out the top five. Bill Plooy began to check out on the field while the caution flag waved on lap six as Tyler Meeks spun in turns three and four. On the restart, Plooy remained in control of the field while Jack Meeks and Rick McCready battled for positions two and three while Luke Whittaker and Josh Van Brocklin filled out the top five. Jack Meeks would look to use the low side of the speedway to move under McCready for second while Josh Van Brocklin used the high side to take fourth from Whittaker. Looking to use the same move Meeks did, Van Brocklin began to use the bottom of the speedway to look to take over the third position from McCready. Josh Van Brocklin switched to the high side to attempt to take the position from McCready, but as he came high out of turn four, Van Brocklin hit the wall to bring out the yellow. This caution created a two lap dash to the finish. On the restart, Jack Meeks slipped under Bill Plooy for the lead while Luke Whittaker also stuck his nose in for the top spot. Jack Meeks took the win over Luke Whittaker, Rick McCready, Taylor Caprara and Bill Plooy filled out the top five.

Milt Combs and Rick Dusckas led the Pro Street Division Massey’s Furniture Barn, Whitesboro Plow Shop of Watertown, A-Verdi Storage Containers to the green. Milt Combs took the lead of lap one over Shawn Kirby, Rick Dusckas, Steven Gilmore and Rob Martin. Shawn Kirby slipped under Milt Combs to take the lead while David Rogers picked through the field to take over the second position. Sid Harmer Sr. battled heavily for the third position but then suddenly slowed as a left front tire slowed his momentum to the front. The caution flag waved on lap 17 when Mike White and Sid Harmer Sr. slowed on the top of turn number three. Shawn Kirby collected the victory over David Rogers, Mike Durham, Milt Combs and Steven Gilmore.

Pat Sullivan and Matt Marcinko led the Whitesboro Plow Shop, A-Verdi Storage Thunder Stock Division to the green. Phil Desormeau took the lead of lap one over Nick Trapp, Matt Marcinko, Pat Sullivan and Don Woodworth. Phil Desormeau collected the win Nick Trapp, Matt Marcinko, John Holder and Justin Burns.

Chapman’s Can-AmMotorsportsPark will take a break from racing action on Friday August 1^st as the Annual Night of Fire and Destruction will be taking center stage. The Monster Trucks will be in action on Friday August 1^st along with a $500 to win, Figure 8 Enduro. The Monster Trucks will return on Saturday, August 2^nd when a demolition derby along with a HUGE fireworks display will also be on the docket.

Racing action will return in its regular weekly fashion on Friday August 8^th when Kost Tire and Massey Furniture Barn will present a full night of racing. Family Autograph Night will highlight the night, as it was previously rained out earlier in the season The Sportsman division will headling the night’s racing action along with the pro street, pro late models, thunder cars, thunder stocks and novice sportsman.
