Garden City
NY… Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park along with SUNY
Canton, Extreme Builders of Watertown and Time Warp Tavern
presented the SUNY Canton Shootout on Wednesday, June 19, 2013.
The Sportsman division headlined the nights racing action with a
40 lap, $2,000 to win event. Also on the racing card for the
evening was the Pro Late Models and Pro Street Stocks. The mod
lites joined the racing action as they were added to the card
after their last regular show at Can-Am was lost to Mother
Nature.
The
SUNY Canton College Mod Lites were the first on the docket for
their 15 lap feature A-Main. Doug Williams and Matt Rainville
led the group of 16 cars to the green flag with Doug Williams
showing the early edge by leading lap number one. The caution
flag flew on lap four when track regular Matt Rainville stopped
coming out of turn number two. On the restart, Tiger Chapman
used his track experience to lurch forward into the top five and
began his assault on the leader for the top spot. By lap six,
Doug Williams was leading the way over Tiger Chapman, Justin
Williams, Stirling Miller and Joel Hargrave. Justin Williams and
Stirling Miller waged a heavy battle for the third position,
which allowed Doug Williams and Tiger Chapman to lengthen their
lead on the rest of the field. Doug Williams collected the
victory over Stirling Miller, Tiger Chapman, Justin Williams and
Joel Hargrave.
Charlie
Sandercock and Dale Caswell led the SUNY Canton Late Models to
the green flag in their 20 lap feature event. Dale Caswell
jumped to the initial lead over Sandercock, Brandon Kidd, AJ
Kingsley and Billy Eisele. As the laps clicked away to the
halfway mark, Dale Caswell and Charlie Sandercock had begun to
wage a heavy battle for the lead. Sandercock used the outside
lane to try to get around Dale Caswell to take away the top
spot. By lap 15, Sandercock had slipped into the lead with
Brandon Kidd also taking advantage of the high lane and moving
around Caswell for second. Charlie Sandercock collected the
victory over Brandon Kidd, Billy Eisele, Dale Caswell and AJ
Kingsley.
The
SUNY Canton Pro Street Division was next with Kenny Hamm and
Matt Parkhurst leading the charge to the green flag. Matt
Parkhurst quickly took over the lead of lap number one over
Kenny Hamm, Josh Verne, Shawn Kirby and Sid Harmer Jr. The
yellow flew on lap number two when many cars became tangled in
turns three and four. On the restart, Shawn Kirby used the
opportunity to slip into the second position while Kenny Hamm,
Josh Verne and Sid Harmer Jr. filled out the top five. Matt
Parkhurst and Shawn Kirby began to wage a heavy battle for the
lead with Kirby giving Parkhurst little opportunity for error as
they worked their way around the speedway. Finally, on lap 17
Shawn Kirby pulled to the outside of Matt Parkhurst coming out
of turn number two to take the lead. It wouldn’t take long for
the field to enter lap traffic with Kirby slicing and dicing his
way through as the rest of the top five hoped that it would slow
Kirby up enough for them to have the opportunity to challenge
for the lead. Shawn Kirby showed dominance as he went on to
collect the victory over Josh Verne, Sid Harmer Jr., Eli Gilbert,
and Kenny Hamm.
The
SUNY Canton and Waite Toyota Scion Sportsman 40 lap feature
A-Main was next up. The first event of the GRIT Series found
hometown regulars Anthony Stockman and Josh Van Brocklin on the
front row for the main event. As the green flag flew, track
point leader Brandon Hagan brought out the yellow flag as he
slowed and came to a stop in turn one and two. The field
regrouped for the green flag with Josh Van Brocklin jumping out
to the lead with Anthony Stockman, Taylor Caprara, Dave
Marcuccilli and Jeremy Pitcher filling out the top five. Josh
Van Brocklin began to enter lap traffic at 10 laps into the race
when the yellow flag waved for Tyler Meeks who had slowed in
turn number four. On the restart, Josh Van Brocklin was able to
maintain he lead but began to feel the pressure from Tyler
Tipple, Dave Marcuccilli, Jeremy Pitcher and Anthony Stockman.
Josh Van Brocklin, Tyler Dippel and Dave Marcuccilli battled
side by side in a three way battle for the lead with Dave
Marcuccilli coming out on top. Dippel slipped into the second
position with Van Brocklin in third. Dave Marcuccilli was able
to hold off the pressure from Tyler Dippel to collect the SUNY
Canton Shootout Victory and the first event in the GRIT Series.

By

Garden City
NY… Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park entertained the first
SUNY Canton Shootout event for the 2013 season on Wednesday, May
22nd. The nights racing
action, sponsored by SUNY Canton and Body Pros featured the
Sportsman division competing in a 40 lap A-Main with the
winner’s share being $2,000. Joining the Sportsman were the Go
Nuclear Pro Late Models and Pro Street’s also in racing
action.
Outside
invader Nick Guererri and Brandon Hagan led the SUNY Canton and
Waite Toyota Scion Sportsman to the green in the 40 Lap SUNY
Canton Shootout. Nick Guererri led the first lap over Brandon
Hagan, Josh Van Brocklin, Anthony Stockman and Steve Hulsizer.
The caution flag waved on lap 6 when Greg Kimball slowed on the

three as he use the outside lane to rocket by Jessica Power and
Josh Van Brocklin. Nick Guererri continued to lead the way with
Brandon Hagan, Taylor Caprara, Jessica Power and Josh Van
Brocklin settling into the top five. On lap 16, the next yellow
waved as Brandon Hagan stopped on the front stretch while
running in the second position. The culprit was a broken drive
shaft, which would send the former track champion pit side for
the remainder of the event. On the restart, Taylor Caprara again
used the top side to move by Josh Van Brocklin to take the
second position, but Van Brocklin would fight back to reclaim
the second position and to begin his assault on Guererri for the
lead. Josh Van Brocklin would take the lead on lap 24, and as
the laps clicked away Guererri would fight back on the bottom to
claim the top spot. The pair battled for the lead with Josh Van
Brocklin making his final pass on the top coming out of turn
number four for the checkered flag. Nick Guererri would finish
second while Taylor Caprara, Jessica Power, and Steve Hulsizer
would round out the top five.
The
SUNY Canton Late Models were led to the start of their 25 lap
feature by Russ Robinson and Alan Fink. Phil Pots jumped out to
the early lead from his third place starting position to lead
lap one with Alan Fink, Brandon Kidd, Russ Robinson and Billy
Eisele filling out the top five. Alan Fink wasted little time as
he quickly moved into the lead by lap three. Billy Eisele was
slowly clicking his way through positions and by lap 10 had
entered the top two and began his battle with Alan Fink for the
lead. Billy Eisele pulled to the outside of Fink and drove by
him at the halfway mark with Russ Robinson, Phil Potts, Dale
Caswell, Sean Beardsley, AJ Kingsley, Charlie Sandercock, Ken
Rogers and Rick Miller filling out the top ten. Track regular
Billy Eisele collected the victory over Alan Fink, Phil Potts,
Dale Caswell and Sean Beardsley.
Glen
Forward and David Rogers led the SUNY Canton Pro Street Division
to the green for their 25 lap feature event. David Rogers used
the fast outer lane to take the lead of lap number one over Sid
Harmer Jr., Glen Forward, Sid Harmer and Kenny Hamm. The caution
waved on lap four when Matt Parkhurst stopped in turn number
four. On the restart, Sid Harmer Jr. took over the top spot from
Dave Rogers with Sid Harmer, Glen Forward and Kenny Hamm
rounding out the top five. On lap 14, Shawn Kirby spun in turn

yellow flew for Milt Combs stopping in turn one. On the restart,
David Rogers slipped high around Sid Harmer Jr. to take the lead
with Sid Harmer, Glen Forward and Roch Aubin filling out the top
five. On lap 24, the yellow flew for Robert Martin spinning on
the front stretch. This created a last laps finish that would
create the battle of the night. As the field went green, Sid
Harmer and David Rogers would battle side by side and as the
pair headed into turn number one, they bumped each other. As the
pair came out of turn two, David Rogers had the slight advantage
which would carry him to the end. David Rogers took the victory
over Sid Harmer Jr., Roch Aubin, Sid Harmer and Glen Forward.

Poirier
Claims Can-Am ESS Event – Hagan, Webb, Sandercock, Forward
& Stanley Collect Checkers
By
Megan Rowe - April 27, 2013
Garden City
NY… Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park kicked off their 2013
season with a special appearance by the Empire Super Sprints.
The 38 car field of sprint cars was also kicking off their
season with a star studded field that featured some of the best
sprint car drivers in the north east. The nights racing action,
which was sponsored by KDM Kustoms and Audio Specialist also
featured the Sportsman, Novice Sportsman, ProStreet, Late Models
and Thunder Cars.
The 20 lap prostreet
feature was the first to hit the track on a frigid April
evening. The field was led to the green by David Rogers and Glen
Forward, both drivers who have years of experience on the fast
half mile. Glen Forward used the momentum on the outside of the
speedway to rocket to the lead of lap number one over Mike
Allen, Matt Parkhurst, David Rogers and Ryan Stabler. On lap six
the yellow flag waved when Milt Combs was found stopped on the
inside of turn number two. Glen Forward was able to maintain his
lead as the field returned to green. Staying at the head of the
field, Glen Forward was able to pick up the Thomas Trash half
way bonus as was leading the way over Matt Parkhurst, David
Rogers, Kenny Hamm, Mike Allen, Ryan Stabler, Josh Verne and Ken
Hartshorn. The final caution came on lap 14 as Justin White
slowed on the front stretch. Glen Forward proved to be the
dominating force as he collected the win in the season opener
for the prostreet division. David Rogers, Kenny Hamm, Roch Aubin
and Josh Verne filled out the top five.
The
Empire Super Sprints were next to lead the way. Their lightening
fast laps during their heats, with some drivers reaching over
95mph, made for a heightened anticipation of what the 25 lap
A-Main would bring. After running a limited schedule in 2012,
Steve Poirier was a force to be reckon with right from the start
as he jumped out to the lead over Matt Tanner, Michael Parent,
Sammy Reakes and Bryan Howland. On lap two, the fastest lap of
the night was laid by Poirier who ran a 17.6 second lap which
equaled to 101.92mph. Poirier withstood multiple cautions while
the rest of the field battled behind him for position. Dylan
Swiernik made a late race charge battling with Kevin Ward and
Michael Parent for many laps to stay locked in a top three
position. Steve “Fire Ball” Poirier would be the dominating
force as he collected the win over Dylan Swiernik, Kevin Ward,
Michael Parent and Sammy Reakes IV.
Invader
Mathieu Desjardins and hometown favorite Chris Thurston led the
field over 27 sportsman cars to the green flag to kick off their
2013 campaign. Desjardins quickly slipped into the top spot over
Thurston, Dylan Evoy, Brandon Hagan and Anthony Stockman. The
yellow flag waived for Michael Prentice who had come to a stop
on turn number two. On the restart, Desjardins kept control of
the field as he led the way over Chris Thurston, Dylan Evoy,
Brandon Hagan and Anthony Stockman. By lap 8, Brandon Hagan slid
past Desjardins to take the lead of the field. Hagan led at the
halfway mark earning him the Massey’s Furniture Barn halfway
bonus. Hagan would show dominance as he started to pass through
lap traffic but it wouldn’t be enough for his competitors as
he went on to collect the win over Taylor Caprara, Mathieu
Desjardins, Justin Thompson and Dylan Evoy.
David
McDonald and Mike Trapp led the Pro Late Models to the green
with McDonald taking the lead on the field. Charlie Sandercock
slipped into second over Mike Trapp, AJ Kingsley, and Sean
Beardsley. Sandercock would show his dominance as he led at the
halfway mark of the race earning him the Bear World half way
challenge bonus. David McDonald and Sean Beardsley battled
heavily for the second position with Greg Belyea entering the
mix. Charlie Sandercock would go on to collect the win over Greg
Belyea, David McDonald, Sean Beardsley and Mike Trapp.
Ray
Bechler and John Stanley led the Thunder Car division to the
green flag with John Stanley leading the charge. Matt Zira and
OJ White battled to stay in the front of the field while Ray
Bechler began to close his lead on John Stanley. John Stanley
went on to collect the win over Ray Bechler, Matt Zira, OJ White
and Chris Warner II.
On
Friday, May 3, 2013 Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park will
honor first responders as they will let all first responders
into the nights racing action for free with their ID. The track
will also host the DPAO Fundraiser night. The Sportsman
Modifieds will headline the nights racing action with the
ProStreet, Thunder Cars, Late Models, Mod Lites and Novice
Sportsman. Cheney Tire will also be bringing us a 30 lap Enduro

The
2013 racing season is right around the corner at Chapman’s Can
Am Motorsports, and the annual Salmon Run Mall Car Show will
help kick off the new campaign. For
the past several years the mall has opened their doors to
Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park and the drivers to showcase
their new paint schemes and new cars for the coming season,
which has generally been the unofficial kickoff to the new
season, which starts just a week later as the track opens for
open practice, followed by the season opener the following
Friday night, April 19th.
The
cars will enter the mall at 4pm this coming Sunday night, March
31st, and will be showcased the entire week. Track
officials will be on hand to answer questions, hand out 2013
schedule cards and help promote the Speedway and what they have
to offer for the upcoming year.
“We
always look forward to this show at the Salmon Run Mall”, says
Can Am General Manager Alana Moncrieff. “We
get the avid race fans that come through the mall to check out
the new cars, but we also get a lot of people that have no idea
what we are all about, and its great to get a chance to talk to
them, and introduce them to our sport”.
Can
Am will make final preparations for the 2013 Season right
after that Salmon Run Mall Car Show. The track plans to
open up on Saturday April 13th and Sunday April 14th
with practice for all divisions. The 2013 season opener
will get underway on Friday, April 19th with a 35
lap, $1000 to win event for the Sportsman division, a $600 to
win Street Stock vs. Pro Stock Challenge event, plus a full show
of Pro Late Models, Thunder Cars and the Novice Sportsman

“We
have a lot of great events in store for 2013. We
have some big races planned, including some big money events for
the Sportsman class, and we have the Monster Trucks returning
for the second year in a row”, adds Burdick. “We
are all looking forward to getting the season underway”.
