With the 2010 racing season right on our doorstep, Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park continues to bring new and exciting opportunities for the drivers that race at Can Am weekly throughout the season.

Today, Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park is proud to announce that Mohawk Valley Community College Aviation Center has partnered with the speedway and will introduce the Mohawk Valley Community College Aviation Center ‘Flying High’ Award for the 2010 season.

The ‘Flying High’ Award will consist of a random draw at the end of the season that will award the winner $300 courtesy of Mohawk Valley Community College Aviation Center.  This bonus is open to all go-kart divisions at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park.  To be eligible for the award, drivers must win at least one feature race during the 2010 season.  The more wins that a driver posts during the season, the more times their name will go into the draw.  The $300 random draw will take place at the annual awards banquet at the end of the season.

“We would like to welcome Mohawk Valley Community College Aviation Center to Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park for the 2010 season”, says speedway General Manager Chip Burdick.  “We are excited to be working with them throughout the year, and we look forward to helping them gain exposure through advertising with Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park”.

Mohawk Valley Community College offers an FAA-approved Airframe & Powerplant [A&P] program at the former Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY. The A&P Certificate is a 1,905-hour program that is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration, approved by the State University of New York, and registered with the State Education Department. The program runs for three consecutive semesters for a total of only 12 calendar months. Currently we are taking enrollment for the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 classes.  Classes are limited to 25 students so contact us early. It is a great opportunity for anyone and is the most affordable program of its kind. Some of the projects currently underway at the center are an F4- Phantom restoration for the Air Force.

This program offers hands-on experience with real equipment. The A&P program is offered exclusively at the Rome Campus, located at the corner of Floyd Avenue and Bell Road near the Floyd Avenue entrance to Griffiss Business Park. Check out more information at www.mvcc.edu/clipboard/aviation

Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park opens this weekend with a test and tune session on Sunday afternoon, giving drivers a chance to test their go-karts before the season gets underway the following weekend, on Friday April 16th.

More information on the 2010 season at Chapman's Can-Am Motorsports Park can be found at www.canammotorsports.com or by contacting Chip Burdick at (315) 778- 3407.

All kart competitors

After much consideration and research with the tire subject regarding the kart program at Can Am I have decided to implement a tire rule.

The mandatory tire will be BURRIS brand only.

There will be NO mandatory tire with the 820 Division.

Some kart teams indicated they did not have a preference but would like a tire rule regarding special events. The negative side to this idea would be that our regular competitors that did not run Burris brand tires weekly would be forced to purchase Burris brand tires to be used only in the special events, which I did not feel practical. Most area kart tracks are Burris only.

With all this being said, along with fact Burris is offering an incentive which would be beneficial to Can Am kart teams assisted with my decision.

Thank you to all who have been patient.

Jr Restricted Division title being changed to Jr Lite Division.

In receiving a couple of e-mails, I am getting the impression that some kart competitors have the wrong idea or are receiving false information from others.

The Jr Restricted Division has been renamed Jr Lite Division for the reason that in the WKA 2010 Technical Manual it is addressed as Jr Lite Division. The race director and I made the decision that Can Am should have the same title as the tech manual we are using as guidelines.

The only change is the title. The rules remain the same, including the age spread 12-15; the minimal weight 300 lbs with driver; the gold restrictor plate.

Do not listen to others; if an engine is caught without the gold restrictor plate the kart and driver will be disqualified.

If you have any further questions or concerns please e-mail them to me.
