Within these rules Chapman’s Can Am Speedway and Motorsports Park will be referred to as Can Am.

Can Am officials reserve the right to disallow any claim they feel to be inappropriate.

All procedures apply to 602 and 604 engines unless individually categorized.

Note: Keep in mind there is a chance you may be purchasing an engine that may not be legal to the rules in a 602 or 604 sealed crate engine division. In accepting the engine you accept the risk.

Claim Amount: 602-$4000     604-$6000

Engine claim can only be entered in a feature event. This includes special event features.

Driver being claimed will be notified of the claim-the driver must immediately choose to accept or refuse. If accepted, removal of engine from chassis must start at once. Engine must be in the custody of Can Am officials within 1 hour of notification of being claimed, or, unless there are extraordinary circumstances, be classified as refusing to be claimed.

Components received with claim: engine along with components supplied by GM factory with new engine purchase. Any parts/components that illegally replaced the original GM factory supplied parts/components will remain with the engine.

Keep in mind if the claimed engine is used in competition in a future 602 or 604 sealed crate engine event, the then affected driver and car will be subject to all rules and penalties, in addition, at this later time there can be no recourse against the driver or the car the engine was claimed from.

Any engine that is found to have an issue regarding rules, the appropriate sanctioning organization will be notified. Further action may be implemented.

Driver and car are both subject to all procedures and penalties, therefore driver and car will be assessed the penalty(s) until the complete penalty(s) have been satisfied. Not being the driver’s regular car has no involvement with any decisions or the outcome.

In the event of more than one claim on the same engine in the same feature, one of the following actions will be apply. 1. All claims may be denied. 2. Claiming drivers will draw numbers-the highest number drawn is entitled to enter the claim. 3. Track may decide to take over the claim. Determining which action must be decided within 10 minutes of entering first claim.

Inspection Procedure:

Non-tamper seals will NOT be removed and will include only the components listed; DOM/ser# plate in place, camshaft profile, compression ratio, cubic inch verification, valve spring pressure.

Inspection will establish the engine’s legality for the affected event only, furthermore offers no assurance of the engine passing any future inspection at any track.

The track will retain the entire claim money amount until the engine inspection along with a ruling has been finalized and will be restricted by the following actions.

*Engine deemed legal with the inspected parts/components-the claiming driver must accept the engine.

*Engine deemed illegal with one or more of the inspected parts/components-the claiming driver must within 10 minutes of being notified of the findings choose 1a. or 1b. of the following actions.

1a. Refuse to accept the engine, therefore the claim money amount will be returned to claiming driver.

1b. Accept the engine and relinquish the claim money amount to the claimed driver, less any possible fine(s).

Once claiming driver enters the decision 1a. or 1b. to the tech official in charge, the decision will be final and cannot be changed.

Claiming Driver:

Driver and car must finish on the same lap as the first place position car in the affected feature and also on the same lap as the first place position car in the three consecutive scheduled feature events in the affected season prior to the affected feature claim date at Can Am to be eligible to enter an engine claim; as a result no engine claim can be entered before the end of the 4th scheduled feature in the affected season at Can Am. Driver/car combination in the prior three events does not have to match as long as driver and car both individually meet the requirement.

Claim cannot be withdrawn after being submitted to the tech official in charge of the affected division.

Driver Being Claimed:

Driver and car are subject to the engine claim rule upon taking the green in a feature event at Can Am. “Did not finish” does not change the effect on an engine claim regarding the driver and car being claimed.

Driver only can refuse an engine claim. Car will also be subject to any potential fine(s) or penalty(s).

All persons involved with both cars are expected to conduct themselves professionally. Any physical or verbal action against other racers or track officials will not be tolerated.

POTENTIAL PENALTIES

The following fines and penalties are NOT mandatory-as each occurrence has individual circumstances, therefore each incident will be dealt with individually.

Refusing to be claimed-Withdrawing a claim-Engine found to be illegal

Will result in a potential $1000 fine assessed to the driver and car. The driver and car will both be accountable for the fine as well as any other penalty(s) involved until all have been satisfied completely. In the event of the imposed fine not being paid, the affected driver may be allowed pit gate admission but may not be allowed to compete as a driver in any division. The affected car may be denied entry to Can Am pits until the fine has been satisfied.

In the event the engine is deemed to be illegal; the engine may be returned to the claimed driver upon the claiming driver refusing to accept or held until any assessed fine(s) is paid; this will be handled individually and will be the exclusive decision of Can Am officials. The affected engine will not be allowed to compete at Can Am in crate engine status.

In the event of a car or driver second offense will impose a potential $2000 fine along with the same circumstances as with a first offense.

In the event of a car or driver third offense driver and car may be banned from Can Am for 1 year (12 months) from affected claim date.

Physical or Verbal Action Against Other Racers or Track Officials

Potential $100 fine. Failure to pay fine could result in banned from Can Am.

TRACK CLAIM: Can Am maintains the authority to claim any crate engine competing in any division in any feature event the engine has taken the green at Can Am. “Did not finish” does not change the effect on a track engine claim. Driver will be notified within 10 minutes of end of affected feature and must immediately accept or refuse the track claim, if accepted, removal of engine from chassis must start at once. Engine must be in the custody of Can Am officials within 1 hour of notification of being claimed, or, unless there are extraordinary circumstances, be classified as refusing to be claimed.  If refused driver and car will be subject to the listed potential penalties.
